The 416's are NOT AIR-SHOCKS. They are a spring shock with air adjustment. My guess is that to get them to ride properly you have to add more pressure than they're REALLY able to cope with. If you want air (and I did) buy Fournales.

I stand corrected. The 444 are different. Sorry if I have confused anyone. Ishrub's statement is accurate in that having more stroke length allows for a softer or lighter rate spring with the same load.

Thank you!
I do understand the difference, tis their unconnected, NO cross reference of their rider weight and spring rates that pisses me off.
Good shockie, but BS data.
Guess I shall have to just buy another set of 444 in order to find out. :( :banghead:

So at the end of the day, does this mean you need to get rid of the 444 you have ? If so I (270 lbs) would be interested. Are they black or silver ?

I'd have to test out the standards first before deciding . . .

After following this thread with great interest I would like to solve a couple of questions.
I weigh 115kg and the missus a bit over half this, I ride about 50/50 one up and two up.
Like most (I'm speculating) I misbehave when out with the boys on my own in the twisties and behave with the better half on the back on the highway (with luggage).
So, is there a happy medium where I can get superior performance one up and smooth softer ride with the pillion or do I have to pick one over the other?
I'm willing to consider wilbers if they provide the best opportunity to achieve the happy medium.
I've been advised to think about wilbers 13" rear and front (progressive) springs with upgraded valve cartridge.
Can I adjust this set up to have my cake and eat it too?
What say you?o_O

If you were going with Wilbers rears I would use matching Wilbers front springs or at least their lower grade PROMOTO brand fork springs - slightly different finish on them apparently and 20% cheaper.
Check out their Roadster range and prices but need to check POSTAGE versus the eBay.com.au listings below.

I got my Sprint ST 1050 rear shock from this Mecadata French seller's eBay site where they ship rear shocks international for free and usually have a 10% from RRP. Just make sure you only spend up to Au$1000 after conversion for each order ( break it up if you have to) as Customs will hit you with a 10% GST plus $100 processing fee if over.
REMEMBER that Customs INCLUDES the POSTAGE in the $1000 limit before 10%GST and $100 processing fee is charged even if you do the paperwork yourself which is fairly easy but hard to track down on the Customs website!

Use Bing or Google web page translator.

And besides Gazi from Queensland, there is another Aussie supplier of a range of Australian designed and assembles YSS suspension products
YSS Australia World Class Bike Suspension from World Class Shock Manufacturer
Your Suspension Shop :: Company History | YSS Suspension Factory direct sales | YSS RD 222 shocks

They have 3 grades for Rockets with two higher spec fixed piggyback ones. A Hyperpro (UK sourced?) top end and a YSS version for a very reasonable price, eg.YSS Shock Fully Adjustable Fixed Reservoir, but please note: FIXED RESERVOIR SHOCKS DO NOT FIT WHEN ANY CASES ,SADDLEBAGS etc. ARE FITTED!

Hyperpro fork springs have a good reputation in the UK.

The midrange Hyperpro and YSS 'Emulsion' rears and some really cheap prices on YSS stock replacement 'Classic' type rears.

I would certainly confirm the Promax fork valving fits all Rocket models though, as I know RaceTech do a kit for Tourings that will not fit the Std or Roadster forks which use a different system.

@Speedy - Not sure if the first statement is correct, but I am sure you know FAR more than I ever will.
I'm just trying to learn more.
From checking spec sheets it appears that the same springs may be used across different Series/grades of shocks.

Being the curious type, I'll go ahead and revive this fantastic thread with a data point :

Wilbers 642 Nightlines
Criteria provided during order:
NO passengers, NO luggage, Aggressive Street riding.
I got 55nm or for the imperial types, 314 lb/in springs on my 347.5mm eye to eye shock setup. Markings on the springs are 59/59 55 165, meaning 59mm diameter top/59mm diameter bottom 55nm and 165mm free length.

For anyone wondering WHY their Wilbers shocks maybe feel a little stiff... it's because THEY ARE lol.
