The G2 tamer grips can't actually make the Rocket Touring grip any tamer, it's already at "maximum tameness". I contacted them and asked. However, perhaps the stock variant would work anyway and give you a metal throttle tube.

Joker Machine also makes a set of two aluminium grips for 1-inch bars, I think they're made to be run as-is without a grip. I think any throttle tube made for a push-pull style throttle and a 1 inch bar should work, pretty much, nothing about the R3T system looks in any way non-standard.

If they are aluminum I would be thinking you'd have black hands

Did they say if they would work? If they have a set that will work they need to add the R3 to their list of Triumphs they service already. They don't have any listed for Harley either. I like the look of their Dakar grips as well. It would be cool to find one that worked.

I didn't actually ask, at the time I figured if it made no difference in the taming part I didn't need it. But after starting to think about how many of these cheap "tupperware" plastic grips fail, it might be nice to have some actual metal.

There are other metal throttle tubes out there also, the trick is figuring out if they're generic and for 1 inch bars. For instance, Biltwell Inc. / Biltwell Whiskey Throttle Tube - 1" Silver - should fit, but I'm just guessing; I'd probably have to drill it open in the end to get the bar end weight back on, I guess, personally.

Avon grips work - I had them on my bike as delivered, and the dealer connected them incorrectly.

Not knowing why they weren't working, I went to my Honda dealer and had them install Oxford grips because they worked really well on my Suzuki 650 V-Strom, and have the Oxford grips on the Rocket to this day.

And to answer your question, I'm not aware of Triumph honoring any warranty on the heated grips, though my knowledge only touches the surface of the ten years plus accumulated experience here.
