I am looking for a screen and can't decide between the fly screen for the sport screen. I wear a shorty helmet and above 80mph it becomes a parachute. If anybody could share their opinion it would be appreciated.

I have the fly screen and can tell you that it makes very little difference.

Best technique I find is to lean forward so that the wind is more on the top of your head. I have the Roadster so I'm probably up too high and forward for the screen to be effective.

I have a summer screen for long interstate rides. It helps stop the buffeting , bugs and rain. Guess it would depend on how tall you are, there is a few inches of adjustment. The bike came with the taller sports screen i think its called, but i never even fitted it.

I've had the fly screen for years.. It is great at knocking the wind from the chest area, but I almost always wear a full face (flip-up) helmet with the fly screen, as an 3/4 open face helmet or less will catch the wind..

I have the summer screen and there is too much wind above 55 to ride w/o a full face helmet. Only 5'7" and before the rocket, hardly wore a helmet.

I have the regular windscreen hardware with an extra tall Cee Bailey aftermarket replacement. It's tall enough that I look through it at 6'2", if you choose one that tall that you will look through it, be sure it's optical quality. Cee Bailey makes aircraft windows so the acrylic is good to see though without scratching easily and distorting vision.
The R3 is such a large bike, even oversize windscreens don't look out of place on them.

Maybe it's 'cause I'm old, but I really enjoy having a big windscreen now. I never had anything between me and wind until a couple years ago, but decided to do it after getting smacked in the face with a square foot of truck tire recap tread. It's been a pleasure to ride behind as well as a safety issue around here with all the **** on the highways.

I have both the sports and an angry fly screen, there is very little noticable difference. You need to be looking at a summer screen or the roadster screen for using an open face lid.

I had the same parachute problem with a Shorty helment. Turned out my helmet was one size to big. I got the right size helment and I have to problem now. Even at highway speeds.

Depending on your height, most of the shorter screens seem to direct more wind at your head than you'd get with no screen - it has to go somewhere. Personally I dislike the buffetting and wind noise from a screen even more than the odd bug in the face, although stones (and tyre tread!!!) I can well do without. IMO, the wind in the chest is a lot less on a Rocket than other cruisers I've ridden thanks to the tank size, twin headlights and position of the guages.

A tighter helmet certainly lifts less.

I really appreciated the summer screen on my last run down the Stuart H'way. Grasshoppers were everywhere once we crossed the S.A border, thousands of the suckers. The other 3 riders got hammered big time. It was hilarious watching them trying the dodge the f#ckin things at 180 kph.
