As Most would know I have sworn by the DS tyre as I like them and was bitterly disappointed by the dismal grip the the Metz offer when pushed, It has Never been about cost for Me it was Safety!!!. Having said All that and I being Open minded am going to try a Brigdestone Excedra Max next time round when I eventually wear out the Federal DS, this has come about only because I Am Open minded and am prepared to try rather than judge on other peoples comments
I originally was skeptical about the DS until I was riding with a DS clad mate and he was maintaining grip while my Metz was Slipping and Sliding under the aggressive riding we were doing, I changed and loved the sure footedness.
I had not tried the Avon because a) at the time they were having issues blowing out!!
I did not try the Brigdestones because a) the dealers were telling me they could not get them then when I met someone that was running one he found them a bit twitchy in the wet and not happy with the millage but that was the OLD Excerda and as we are now aware that Brigdestone obviously listens to it customers and produced the Excerda Max unlike Metzler which keeps trying to sell it's crap
I have ridden with Richard a couple of times now and the last one a fairly long one and while is not quite as aggressive in the tight stuff he makes up for it in City traffic (crazy bastard) also rides similarly whilst cruising the hwy and is getting respectable wear out of it, so I said I am open minded and will try one if it is as good a grip in the tight stuff as the DS then I May go back to Bike tyres if not I'll be right back on the DS which has proven itself for me
Also All this Bull-S about counter steering, when I first got the Rocket with it's std fittment Metz I found I was doing a lot more counter steering than on recent other bikes (sports and Tourers) but when I fitted the DS I only had to slightly increase the effort not a lot really, then when I tried the Shinko I found the counter steering was more than halved and the steering became lighter and faster,so guys it's that frigging front Metz get rid of it and try something else anything would be better on the Front

Hans I did not mean you would notice more counter steering as I realize you get used to it. Just that more counter sterrign happens with the car tire which throws the pegs into the asphault more then with a motorcycle tire. If its all about savong money I do not think the price of new pegs/floor boards adds to the savings much.

I have a BS exedra Max on a rim and c an not wait to try her out once Gracies cobra wears out. If I get to maggie valley I might just throw her on The Millennium Falcon for the trip to see how she acts on the higway cruise and the twisties down south

Crap that must be boring as doggy poo round here wehave more like the opposite (318 curves in 11 miles) maybe even more how do you ever get to put wear on the sides of your tyres, must hurt to see half the tyre you pay for not getting used and being thrown on the rubbish tip

1) Using a car tire is like substituting a glad bag for a condom.

2) I am sure you you can make the glad bag work but it will take some additional effort

3) Using the glad bag makes you look like a cheap ass... you drive a 15K motorcycle and skimp to save a couple of bucks tires

4) Condoms have a proven 96% percent effectiveness for protection. the glad bag has no proven protection, hell it wont even keep out the freezer burn

5) now back to tires ,,, if a car tire cost less, last longer, and is safe don't you think the manufactures would use them as OEM... it would increase there profit margin and help with customer retention ..... a win win for the manufacture. Must be something being over looked I doubt a manufacture would pass up this kind of opportunity.

I didn't particularly swap to the dark side to save a few dollars.
I swapped because I wanted to try it out.
The fact mine has over 20,000 miles on it now,
is a bonus for sure, but not a real reason to swap IMHO.
The safety of "feeling" secure and sure footed is a plus.
Just like when I swapped out the front metz for a dunlop.
She "felt" safer, she didn't slip around corners, she had a better grip.
What's the fun in riding if your tires make ya paranoid cause they slip
with the slightest amount of water going around a curve?
I'm also sure since Triumph had metz make the 240 for the rocket,
they wouldn't just say, hey wait a minute,
we've found car tires are better, safer, cheaper, and last longer,
so even though we contracted you guys to build us a special tire for our machines,
you just eat them, we've changed our minds...

Put the BS on the front a couple of weeks ago. So far it seems fine. I did really like the 2 Avons I've had on the front and would put one on again in a flash if the BS isn't as good. I have noticed in the recent rain here that the BS throws water out to side like nothing else I''ve seen. Incredible really. And it seems sure footed in the wet and dry too. Might get down to mileage but so far so good.

Read a few mixed reviews about the balance goo. Seems to plug small leaks OK provided they're right down the middle and seems to work OK for balance. Might be worth a try but I was having trouble finding a local distributor. I'll look again and send you a PM. Will be in few days as I'm in the middle of moving house.

Thanks young fella I will have to change the front Avon next month Japan was a bit exy this time so in a few weeks the Piggy wil have coins for the BS front
