Avon Cobra 150/80/17

Am I correct in assuming that it was not an Exedra Max on the front, but one of the G series Exedras?

I am seriously contemplating the Exedra Max 130/70 17, for which I will drill and lower the front fender. It is abslutely amazing how much it lightens the beast's feel and aassists in its handling. My only concern is it's load rating index number is a bit low at 62, however, I virtually never ride two up, so it shouldn't be a problem

Whaddya think, guys?
Not happy with the Michelin ? I was thinking of getting another front guard and drilling and lowering it (if I like it) as you just said you were thinking of doing, just have to make sure I don't get a black one .... wouldn't want to slow "The Mistress" down :D

That's correct Phil; they don't do a Max in 150/80x17. The G gripped OK but didn't wear well at all. I've been happy with the Avon; never really think about what the front's doing because it just feels secure in all conditions. I'm contemplating the Commander II to see if it does make as big a difference as you and others say, but don't think I'd want to go any smaller. Be interested in hearing how it works for you.

Well you did ask , I think you should be careful with this.

Load rating goes hand in hand with speed rating, to my knowledge if you fit lower load rating than recommended, you have to assume a lower speed rating too - this applies the other way round as well.

You say you don't ride two up but that is not when the tyre will likely be asked to go to its limit, its in an emergency stop from speed. IMO that could push it over the safety margin.

To me slightly sharper turn-in isn't worth reducing the safety margin of the tyres, particularly the front.

Been running the Avon front with the Excedra rear for about two weeks now. Both new and mounted at same time. After nearly 1000 miles I can only say wow!! Should have made the switch long ago. Both feel much better in all conditions from dry to heavy rain, in the twisties and on take-off/stop. May try a DS at some point when back in states, but can honestly say for now, I think I'm riding the perfect combination!!:D

Why on earth would you want to put a car tyre on your bike after comments like that about a really sensible bike tyre combination? What problem are you trying to fix?

It's not that I'm trying to fix something...just willing to try. :D I wouldn't have known how great this combination was if I hadn't tried it for myself. If I try the DS and don't like it, it's easy to go back (and from what I understand, won't even cost much to try?) But I am pretty sure I don't want it here in Europe and actually not even sure it would be legal? Then again, according to my landlord running different brands on the front and back isn't legal for them either

Germans like regulation. :D

Heaven Is Where:
The French are the chefs
The Italians are the lovers
The British are the police
The Germans are the mechanics
And the Swiss make everything run on time

It's called having an Open Mind!!!;)

My Dear cardinal93 & you, HansO,
"I love my new motorcycle tires!
They have really improved my motorcycle's handling!
Think I'll put on a car tire on when I get back in the US."

WTF???

Unless there are inherent differences in the roadway materials used in Germany versus the US, I can see absolutely NO justification or logical rational for the uses of a car tire!
Hold on! There is only one reason - the bird syndrome, cheap, cheap, cheap.
Semi - Respectfully,
1olbull
