Tricky Transmission?

My '06 Classic only has about 200 miles on it; but thought to
ask this question anyway.

I find from time to time its hard to get into 1st gear after being
stopped at a light. Probably the transmission is a little finicky,
new, and I'm not used to it yet. So I push down from neutral
and the neutral light goes off; let out a little clutch and feel it
start to pull... start off and 1 time in 30 it pops out of first gear.

After it pops out I know I knew it was going to do that; I'm getting
the feel of the transmission and I "know" it wasn't fully engaged..
I figure its -not- a good thing to allow it to pop-out like that; so I'm
trying to always minimize this possibility...

The question is: Have others experienced this?

Thanks

Roy

Common tranny issue??

That seems to be a commonality.

I tap into 1st, let clutch out partially to check engagement and follow-up, regardless, with a second tap into 1st.

Most Rockets do that... it gets better with miles...

Do what 3Tic said... let the clutch out a touch to get it to slip into first completely...

The tranny will get better with time too, especially once the break-in oil is changed. In my case the rider got a little more accustomed to it also.:)

Every So Often

I just turned 7,400 miles today and once in a while I'll be in 2nd gear and coming to a stop. I'll engage the clutch, downshift but it doesn't go into 1st. I can push soft or hard up to 4 or 5 times and there's nothing there. It's like being in limbo. When that happens I normally let the clutch out, find that I'm still in 2nd, re-engage the clutch and try again. That usually ( that's the operative word here) takes care of it.

What I don't understand is why it still does that occasionally?

First of all, don't take it out of gear at stop lights - that hinders a quick reaction if one is needed.

Second, this problem has noted at the beginning of Rocketdom. It was recommended to depress the clutch once before depressing it again and putting it into 1st.This works.

Roy,
Yes it seems to be common. I let out the clutch level a tad when shifting from 2nd to 1st and it usually pops in first just fine. My John Deere Tractor has same issue with the range selector lever.

What I'm wondering is if the 2007's still do it?
