Hans, I thought that this made it clear that Art was just makin' a funny? We only let him lead the rides because he's old(er), feeble and demented, so we have to keep our eyes on him so he doesn't crash or get lost.:x3: That's a pretty good likeness of him up above, too!
HEY stop pickin on me Im very sensitive BOO HOO

Here I'll explain why I am after power from low RPM to 7000ish.

Most riding is done on the street. On the street most impromptu races and such are from a roll and from a situation where you dont have the opportunity to wind the motor up and launch it, staying in crazy high RPM. As such, MOST street races are won by a fat Ass mid-range, which is why the CBR1000 is so amazing on the street, fatass mid-range.

The reality is the majority of riders will never see a track, 1/4 or road course. I for one don't have a track here on Oahu at all so yeah. Having power where you use it makes the most sense, period. If your bike spends its life running 1320s all day, cool, build it for it.

The other factor is that some of us have owned high rpm, high power vehicles and prefer big torque to high rpm power. Is a 300 hp, 10,000 rpm honda faster than a 250 hp 90s mustang? Yes, but which one has more STREETABLE power and more power you can put down instantly with little to no warning, and will be faster without beating the pissing out of it at less than jail speeds.

I would love to hear your defenition of "handling the power", because that's quite the arrogant statement, and you'd probably do well to realize there is ALWAYS someone faster than you are in the world of motorcycling.

There is also the fact that I'd prefer to not spin an engine to a point the Pistons are moving faster than the Pistons in an F1 car.......

Man, oh man, would I ever love to test your premise about impromptu road races being performed from a roll. If that's how you do it, and I really doubt that it is, you'd never come out ahead around here. In practice, what you describe is not racing at all, it's simply a comparative analysis.

The good Lord gave us clutches & gear boxes for a reason, ya' know!;)

I can understand what @Claviger is saying. 'Tis likely difficult opening a Rocket up in Oahu without getting wet. :D
Seriously impromptu challenges of power usually come while riding and not from one with the cojones to drag from a stop.
I have found way more riders willing to dice in the twisties than stop and drag. I do find that strange because me thinks the twisties take more skill.
I am both surprised and impressed @HansO comments that impromptu drags are from a stop in OZ are more common. Especially given the seemingly repressive traffic enforcement.
Let's face it, most of us generally ride between 2500 and 5500 rpms and it seems logical that's where we'd prefer the most power.
Where am I wrong here?
