Friction is a function of pressure per unit of area. If weight remains the same, surface area doesn’t mean more friction, it only means lower pressure per unit area but total friction remains the same. Thus slower tire wear.
This doesn’t account for road surfaces/imperfections, tire construction, or tire compound, but wider absolutely doesn’t automatically mean better grip.
I’ve had my darkside Roadster to about 130 with no vibration or speed wobble or anything. She was smooth as silk. I run around 42 psi in the rear. 38 caused wobble.
