Yes I can swing a spanner no problem, especially in anger. I thought as much once I looked in the hole yesterday, then finally looked at the manual. I'm not too worried as the parts were well priced and I'll keep them till I have to strip the motor and will get the gears undercut at same time.

Currently dont have the time for a weekend strip and rebuild due to work load, also wont get the gaskets here in time, wont buy off NZ stealership so always import.

Was only an hours work to get the bike stripped to below, bar the oil and water draining and cleaning out of rocks etc that were stuck everywhere.

Anything else I should do while Ive got this open? Going to fit a new detent spring anyway

I have not posted on this because your doing well and Peter knows just as much if not more !!! I was looking at yoir cam chain guide to see which early version you had. And noticed something I believe I've not seen before so you can look at whether it should be there or not. Well and im not done with my first cup of coffee and I am on the technical library

Anyway highlighted below the hex shapes is what caught my eye.

Or am I not holding my face straight. It sure looks like part of the casting. I will have to look at some of my engine pictures to see if its there.

Gday Pete.. is the detent wheel keyed onto the shaft do you know?

Hey Mike, Yes there is a pin in the selector drum that lines up with a slot in the wheel

Warp, I'll go and look today and take a better photo I have no idea what that is, hopefully I don't have some sort of "one off".

Had a good look over the cam chain guide and it looks OK, if you don't mind for my reference what is the difference between the versions?

Fitted Detent Spring last night and then referred to other images off the forum, is there a right and wrong way round? I fitted the detent spring the same way the old one came off.

Does the spring go over or under the pin it locates on? Mine was under all the images I see are over. Was a right b*std to get it fitted that way.

Spring goes over pin. Probably more important is hook goes thru the detent arm from fore to aft. Which if wound right should leave the hook going over the pin. And makes it easier to install. I am curious as to which detent spring you got. The original or the new one that goes with the new smaller diameter detent wheel.
