Personally I can not think of the last time I used my horn. I did bump it while I was balancing the throttle bodies , hey some people think a horn makes the bike safe

Hi Guys!!!

Sorry to break the flow.

Just a quick question. I own a R3T. My horn (nautilus) is under the tank tied to a frame.

Apparently due to some reason it is not working.

Do I need to attach the instrument panel to test the relay/horn circuit? Please advise.

Thanks,
Dark Ele

Did you try hooking up your instrument panel to see if it made a difference? I think the reason no one answered is because you asked one of those questions that no one really knew the answer to. What did you end up doing and what was the outcome? Do you need the instrument panel on the Touring hooked up for the horn to work?

Hi Bob,

Yes I tried with Instrument cluster on...made no difference...I'll try again this weekend....will keep you posted.

What if you take the horn off, and hook it to another 12V source -- a car for example ? If it works there, that would demonstrate you understand how the horn is supposed to function and eliminate that as a variable.

Are you running a relay -- horns (I don't know about that one specifically, sorry) in general are high-amperage devices, and need heavy duty wiring direct to a big fuse and prime power, where the switch only activates a relay.

Have you checked the fuse ?

Thanks Paul,

- Good Idea....but my horn cable is soldered into main plug...horn is under the tank and wires are difficult to untie and access...I'll find a way to test the circuit..

- Yes I am running a stock relay that comes with horn, fuse is 20A and is fine

- Yes Fuse is OK

Air horns are pretty notorious for failing. The easiest way to test is to do what Paul suggested and just take its wires and apply them straight to the battery poles (just get the negative and positive right). If it blows your eardrums off, it's fine.

By the way, if you power up the bike without the instrument cluster connected, you'll probably have error codes up the wazoo in the ECU. May need to hook up a TuneECU to the bike and clear them. In general, it's best to disconnect the battery entirely before starting any electrical mods.

Hi cr0ft,

First thing tomorrow morning, I will check both horns and circuit.

Mine doesn't even prime without connecting to Instrument cluster.

Thanks,
Dark Ele
