Valve Clearance.

There was some scouring on the camshafts and cam ladder. Especially the ones towards the back; exhaust and intake.
At this point, it's going back together regardless as I have spent enough money and time but I would like to know if I should be concerned.

I'll attach a bunch of pictures. It's hard to show on pictures but you can definitely feel the scouring, especially with finger nail.

A little history:
My bike is 86,000km. 50k km ago (6 years) the output bearing got loose and metal shavings contaminated the oil filter which clogged and the bypass valve opened. So filings went all over the oil system. I had extended warranty which paid the $12500 bill and I got Triumph to provide the upgrade kit as well.
Oil tank, oil pumps, final gear, output bearings and a whole bunch of other parts got replaced. I don't remember seeing camshafts on that list.
I think that the scouring must have been done at that time.

How concerned should I be?

A friend recommended I sand the surfaces with a fine grit sand paper... I'm not sure about that.

Make sure it's clean first :p
Hey bud its hard saying what they did for a tune of 12500.00 from the looks of it they must not have inspected the cams. If you good supply a picture of the cam chain guide tensioner side I might be able to tell you if they installed a new one or if you have the original one as the update kit changed the style from the 06. I realize you might not have the front cover off so it might be hard to take a picture down thru the head on the exhaust cam side. Of course if you have the cover off then its quick and easy. I am trying to decide if they just rolled her over and split the motor. You don't have a list of parts they changed do you. Things I would look for is main and rod bearings and crank shaft if it was trashed. If they did nothing on the crank then it could be they spit her cleaned her up and never even checked the top side Or it could be there was no way to get all the trash out of her. You said it plugged or jammed the oil relive valve open which might not normally be open at low rpms. the pump builds more pressure as the rpm climbs as it is driven by the chain off the back of the clutch basket. once the pump creates more pressure then is needed the excess oil blows out the relief valve spray all inside the transmission good for transmission lubrication unless it has metal in it. Likewise if it is stuck in the open position at idle she has low oil pressure and volume to reach the rest of the engine. see where I am going here?

Yup

I found the parts list this morning, I'll post it later. But there was definitely no new cams, the upgrade kit X is listed with a bunch of seals, clutch lifter, and multiple bearings, final drive, output bearing etc.

Back to the gouging, it's not that major but I'm thinking oil deprivation at some point. That said, I have a permanent filter with magnet and every oil change (10,000mi) there is virtually no filings on it. So I think it's old damage that I have been running on forever.
Question is, what should I do now? Should I just leave it alone or seriously start thinking putting new camshafts/heads/ladder?

I am looking for what they replaced not a list of whats in the update kit. Whats in the kit does not mean whoopie if they did not changed it. Which also is why I wanted to have a look at the cam chain guide that is in the motor. I can then tell if they changed it as I know its in the update kit. Say for instance you look at what is in Rocket scientist motor and it had the update kit or really it had the parts needed for second gear and put the cir-clip in back asswards. A lot of the other stuff they did not replace . Torsional damper bearings which went bad last year. then as it failed this year and he tore it apart he found they did not change the fifth gear breaking components on the input shaft. with his you could not tell on the cam chain guide as the replacement is actually a earlier version type not what in a 06. so he could have had a good cam chain guide to start with so whether they changed it or not is up in the air. Yours if we can see whats in her I can tell you if its the 06 or if its been changed. So by list I mean what they said they changed if you get my drift. Oh and a magnetic oil filter is good except the cam ladder and head are non magnetic :(

If u want it done wright replace all if u want to live with it then i would polish the cam journals
start with 600 or higher then to about 1200 grit to polish... i would not touch the aluminum head or ladder.

That sound fine when its typed but before I started even taking the minimum off the cam journals I would first measure them to see if they are in tolerance in the first place standard journal 22.93 to 22.96 mm this will tell you if you even have material you can remove although if you do you might exceed the cam journal to ladder standard clearance of .040 to 0=.091 mm with a service limit of .13 mm this will take a plastigage kit to measure the clearance. Plus you would need to spin them between centers to polish them right unless you have a cylindrical grinder an d a machinist handy. I would first measure the cams to see what you have then one could measure the journal diameter with the right instruments if he had them to see if it is even close. since you not looking at decking the head and cam ladder and line boring it as I would bet you can get a head and cam ladder used cheaper who knows maybe with the cams. lets first see if they fixed everything and this is something new or the monkey fuc's did only half the job in the first place.. personally I would summon @Neville Lush for a real qualified opinion on keeping it as I would be slapping my extra engine in her. He is a busy guy but like the bullish investor commercials when he talks I would listen !!!!
