Tune ECU / PCV Question

You're right Dougl, it is a bit simpler.

I prefer spending the extra 30 seconds to hook up a laptop and build a table so I know all the numbers exactly vs a range.

Different stroke different folks and all that.

So the Dobeck allows for using a full A/F target table? Presumably one could use a table developed for the PCV AT.

Not as far as I can tell from the site, the "table" so to speak for the dobeck is the lights, as far as I can tell from their website.

The A/F table in a standard R2 tune has 640 TP/RPM cells in TuneECU. How do you get this level of detail into the Dobeck?

Now sir, you've nailed why I prefer PC-V to dobeck.

Dobeck lets you give it an AFR target for a given RPM, or RPM range, then it interprets those set points you've given it into its own table. It's done by the software, based on the premise that a table of 640 points can be derived from 3 or 4 set points.

I guess the question is how much does all that detail buy you? If you can get a good running bike with 6 points, perhaps Paul should recommend that.

This is why I was looking at this unit.
Take the situation where there is no decent tuner available, a dealer who sells Triumphs but doesn't know the first thing about them and a Guy who doesn't have the skills to load a tune, whats the best suggestion I can make ?
We're not talking high Horse power bikes here, just Joe Average who wants his bike to be a little different from others and wants/requires it set up appropriately. It's not a matter of money.
Sure you and I might have a decent tuner/skills etc available and be prepared to spend what ever it takes, but what about the guy who does not have this?
That's what I'm looking at.

Tuning devices give you the ability to destroy a perfectly good motor with a simple misunderstanding.

Because of that, in my opinion, 90% of people have no business messing with them. You can be certain, if there is a way to **** it up, someone will.

If a USB cord, and following 6 steps, is too much for someone in 2016, I don't even know what to say, it's literally easier than cooking spaghetti, changing oil, or installing their new slip on / header.

For that individual, those who are totally electronically illiterates, I'd ask them to mail me their ECU and flash it for them if I were a business, it removes the guess work and missunderstanding.
