Progressives Installed!

You may be able to modify your bike 's seat to lower YOUR rear end and bring your feet a bit closer to the ground. Not an original thought here. There was a post about this notion in another thread.

My stock shocks had sagged to 12 after 6k miles so you should measure yours and see what length they are at present. I also would seriously consider something other than progressive 440's. I installed the 440 HD's and found them to not do well two up or with a load. If the load on the bike is anywhere near 200lbs you would be better finding a less finicky shock. If you adjust the spring load to carry the passenger or luggage then the shocks are rougher than the stock.

MsLizz: I still recommend the 418's for you. If you don't carry luggage, the 418HD's will be plenty for you as the 440 HD's will be, IMHO, too much shock.

thanks

Thanks for all the info and advice and opinions on the Progressives. Will probably look into it in the Autumn.

Been thinking about having an upholsterer shave the seat. Always a bit distrustful of messing with stuff like that, but thats just my weirdness! ITs like once you shave off the cushion stuff, and what if its uneven, uncomfortable, you cant really put it back...my paranoia....heehee.....thx

I am still undecided on either the 440 standards or the HDs. I weigh in at an astounding 230 (gads but that is even hard to type) and just know I'll get down to my 25 year old fighting weight again one day.. :D

Gasket,

I weight about 280 currently and plan to install the 440's and not the HD's. Even when I ride two up and are at the maximum capacity of the bike the standards should do fine.

The HD's are for when you plan to ride at or near the recommended maximum capacity of the bike at least 50% of the time.

I ride more solo so I'm probably a little over 60% max load. I'm hoping the standard 440's will do it for me when I order.

Hey MsLizz, I,m running the 440,s 11" depending on how many beers I,m about 90kgs and nothing scrapes

You need to raise the forks through the yokes as far as they can go on the widest diametre.Youll notice a big differance in the handling. It will steer quicker. Aye up tom my rearsets are set as high as i can go without having my knees round my ears.Dont tend to scrape it as much but i have had my feet pulled of the pegs a few times when your toes hit the tarmac.I have thought about putting the wilbers back on to see what it would handle like with its arse up in the air. But its supposed to be a cruiser.

Step, I now have mine set as far back & as far up as they will go, with standard front suspension & Progressive 440's of standard length at the back, and I have to work quite hard to scrape the pegs now.

Managed it a few times last weekend in France, chasing after Nomad on his Yamaha FJ something or other 1400. :p
