Interesting! I just cut my windshield yesterday and was going to post how easy it was when I saw this thread. I used a jigsaw with a fine tooth blade. It was a piece of cake. I removed a bit more then you, I lopped of 2 7/8 inches. It seems perfect. BTW, if you put a very thin layer of MEK on the edge it will make the edge look like it was never cut.
MEK works pretty good for that sort of thing. Just be careful you do not drip it on other areas of the plastic. I dip a rag in to it and squeeze the rag so as not to drip then apply a light coating to the edge. Voila! it smoothes right out!
Oh... one other thing...., don't drink the stuff. It has quite a kick!
Thanks for the advice guy's. Have decided that it's still too tall so going to lop another inch off so will try some of the suggestions to get a better finish this time!

Let us know how it works out for you. Another way to clean up the edge is to use mguiar's plastic polish. You can buy this in kit form with a buffing wheel, rags, etc. Attach the buffing wheel to your drill, add some polish to the buffing wheel and hit the edge. Cleans it right up, you can also use this to remove small scratches from your windshield or a helmet visor. The stuff works great and you you are not taking a chance of dripping MEK on your windshield. (that would really suck!)
