Explain the secondary function to me

The bikes it makes the biggest difference with is stock bikes. Since it doesn't change anything with the fuel, and you are still running stock exhaust and intake that doesn't require any mods to the mixtures, all it does is trick the bike into thinking it's in the gear programmed for the most power delivery.
4th and 5th gears are set from the factory with 7% more power than 1st-3rd ... the bike just thinks it's always running in 4th or 5th ... all the time.

I would take out the secondaries just for the quick throttle response, but you don't have to. If you want to leave it stock just put in the GiPro and enjoy the added power in low gears. As long as it's installed correctly and working as per designed, you won't be disappointed.

Just ordered one. I need a front tire a lot more than I need a gipro but there is no fun in that. I'll get the front tire next month, as long as I get it before the rains kick in.

You don't really "need" the gear indicator, but it's handy to have. Ditto the unlocked 7%. :D

It appears, based on some other posts and from my own personal experience, that many of those with 2008+ Touring (detuned from factory)models find the GiPro less impressive than those with non-Touring bikes. I do not fully understand why this is true, but the GiPro didn't do squat for my 2009 R3T.

Or maybe my 60-year-old "butt-o-meter" is just too old and callused to notice a 7% gain?

YMMV,

So from what I have read the secondries only part open in first, second and third gear at any throttle position and will be fully open in fourth and fifth.
Have I got that right.
The GiPro will open the secondries right up in all gears, it is that right and is that all the GiPro does.
