Darkside suggestions for the R3T

Hi Phil, yep I do ride all styles and I still found the CT gives a different riding style, less breakaway on hard corner exits. I have worn down both footpegs in the twisties and enjoy hard riding, otherwise why own a Rocket 3?

I have 6 motorcycles for all different styles and trust me the Rocket gets thrashed. There is more ground clearance with the CT so she bounds/ drops in even harder to bottom out. It's more of a beast with the car tyre. I just enjoy riding and don't brag, that's all. Try CT's...they work. The BlueStreak is a chinese manufactured tyre. (now don't luagh just yet! Ha!) Excellent as the proof shows. BTW, car tyres are normally operating much higher horsepower than the Rocket delivers and carry heavier loads with sidewall displacement due to inertial content of weight shift directly sideways to the tread, so it is rubbish that the sidewalls are flimsy. They are generally stronger than a motorcyle tyre. One of the main reasons that I changed over was the thickness of the Avon, when worn to near replacement levels. The centre was down to 2-3mm, a bit over an 1/8 of an inch, like travelling an elephant on a balloon. I was punctured by a piece of broken plastic on the road!

I've only had it let go once when hammering out of a corner with a dead cold tyre. The BT's let go all the time on acceleration out of corners. Hope this helps. Barney

Leave your footpeg alone, you've been playing with it too much!

That's good info, Barney, however the OP was looking for info on car tires that will fit on the touring model's 180 rim.

Bluestreak tires are not available here in the States. I wonder who manufactures them?

Also, would I be correct in inferring that you are a relatively conservative rider, i.e. one who doesn't push very hard or very often in the twisties and who virtually never spins his rear wheel on purpose? I would guess that is the case by virtue of your getting the kind of mileage you stated out of the Metzeler's.

I think that CTs work well on these machines provided that you will not be pushing them onto their sidewalls very much. Even then, they may be acceptable to some, however there is a significantly higher risk for sidewall failure since there is nothing considerable reinforcing the sidewall on the CTs. Although nobody has experienced or reported such a failure, I'd hate to be the first to go down that road (literally! lol).
CT's don't have tread on the sidewalls either Phil. Hey Phil between the cigarettes and the CT's, one of them is bound to bite you in the ass one day. Just keep smoking and riding those CT's. Art and I can help you speed up the process!

Another wiseguy, eh, Mark (BTW, welcome aboard)? If anything's gonna' kill me it will be you guys, for sure!;) That or my aching back (don't ask!).:D

Anyway, I haven't had a cigarette in nearly a month.

Now, should I confess to Barney that I've been riding on the Darkside (TOYO Proxes T1R 225/55 16) since I got my Rock nearly 3500 miles ago and that my prior two bikes were shod the same way, i.e. with CTs?

Whaddya' think of the weasel's theory on sidewall strength?

Gettin' better, but far from "right", Art. Saturday may work... I'll be in touch.
