Carpenters new pipe, heat shields required?

I'd like to clear something up, are you saying the sidewinder runs cooler than the brute due to the difference in header pipe diameter or are you saying it's cooler because your leg is further from the pipe while it's on the foot peg.

I'm also curious to understand the performance advantage 2" pipe has over the smaller dia header pipe, obviously it breathes easier but does it benefit hp at the expense of torque for instance.
Cooler due to the distance of header pipe to leg relationship. Both the Brute and the new Carpenter style are 2" diameter. As for the performance advantages I should leave that to the experts. As has been discussed before when using a better flowing exhaust along with better breathing intake you have the potential for more power IF you have it properly tuned.

A good pipe deserves a good set of heat shields. Made by @Pedro :)

Of curse mine were all three made prior to the sidewinder style. For this Na motor I would be willing to try a set but other then looks they produce the same power as the ones above, so no need to spend more on pipes just for looks as its ride time :D
That's the way they should come from the factory

Unless they were designed in a way that they are not required. No shields, no wrapping. No burn marks on your trousers. No excessive heat waiting at a traffic signal. Also if it's important to you no compromising performance.

I like the looks of the Carpenter Sidewinder. Do you loose any low or mid torque? I heard a Carpenter 210 Packaged Rocket with the Brutes at a dealership in Houston and the noise was terribly loud! Too much for riding comfortable. Not sure if it had the baffle installed. Is the Sidewinder with the baffle loud or annoying while accelerating and at cruise? I know it is very subjective, but I would like not to attract the Police when riding!

@leatal , I might be wrong but I do not believe the Carpenter Pipe is offered with a baffle , I know that baffles have been adapted for the pipe but I really don't find it so bad .

Sounds like you live in Illinois. No wait your state has a budget so you cops are not out looking for revenue :)
Seriously IMO with out the baffle the brutes are like Gabriel's trumpet . The baffle does take a bite out of the noise but yet lets her roar when you giving it some wick. You must be careful not to cut to much flow or your defeating the purpose of the pipe.

I do agree that the pipe is too loud without any baffle at all. I've installed a Vance and Hines 2 1/2" baffle. I also think that the best way to determine whether the pipe is too loud or not is to listen to somebody else riding your bike while you're not on it. It's funny that when you have the Ramair system I don't know if the triple K n N's or unit filters would do the same although I can't see how they wouldn't but as you pilot the bike you hear more induction noise then you hear exhaust under acceleration. As you lean back and just listen to the Carpenter exhaust with the baffle that I mentioned it sounds awesome. Also you can pick smaller baffles but I don't think it's necessary. I have passed several police officers standing outside of their patrol cars before and I purposely pay attention to see whether they would even turn and look in my direction and so far I haven't had anyone that turned even while passing them only one lane over.

Ya I went with a 3 inch ID open rapped baffle just at the end of the can so it does not restrict it to much. She has a special roar when you open her up yet a quieter rumble at idle. It is actually just the front of the baffle made for the 4.5 inch megaphone.

so this is what I use of it

If my bike was stock I would not hesitate to try the whole baffle if I felt it needed to be a little quieter, but I like what I have and the cops can look and see a baffle real easy. Of course they do not have to bend over or is it so visible the smart fellers do not have to strain themselves to see there is a baffle:D

Oh and it attaches to the end cap for the can

I had forgotten that I had seen your baffle in the thread earlier. Where did you order it from? Also to reiterate the noise that the intake makes I recall a very long time ago reading an article on one of the first Kawasaki Z1's where the editor describes the intake noise as an attempt by the bike "To Suck the bark off the trees as it went down the road.

A bit of a thread Necro, but it''s pertinent.

Do you have any more info on which end cap that is? Manufacturer or part number? Anything else on the baffle would be awesome warp too!
