Carpenter 210+ VS 240+ on the street

Alright, the bike was dropped off at Carpenter Racing on Saturday. I decided to go all in for the 240+ kit (I guess REALLY all in would have been the 270+ but the 240 is already well over my budget).

The filters will go on when I pick up the bike either this weekend or next.

You wont regret getting the RX-4040-1 filters it is what I run and love them but make sure you make a strap to secure them as I did in this thread -- http://www.r3owners.net/threads/bigger-is-better.12381/

Hanso THANK YOU for pointing out the need for a support strap. I have parts in hand and will fab up a simple bar and strap much like what you showed in your post. I do have a little concern about moisture entering the system, since I ride in some pretty nasty weather. Did you take any measures to keep water off the filters in downpours or have you found it to be a non-issue? I don't want to come out to a parking lot and find my engine full of rain water.

They will be testing the build with and without the Reband baffle installed, and I'll have to decide exactly how loud I'm willing to let the bike roar. I don't mind the noise, but I don't like flashing lights and expensive noise violation tickets. I don't think she'd be any louder unbaffled than the Brute would be, and I haven't heard too many reports of tickets going to the guys running them, so we'll just have to see.

I am not not in love with horse power like I am torque. As such having to rev the motor to get "that feeling" was not the way for me. I am glad I went with the addition of a super charger to get the OMG effect. It rides like a stock bike until the throttle is twisted a little.

Norseman, I'm sure Hanso will give you his take on the 4040s but I have ridden (and parked) my bike with my filter set up unprotected in pouring rain. I do have a pre-filter dry cover these days as a precaution but have had no problems with water build-up. This perhaps is due to my intake running horizontally so any water entering the filter while the bike's not running just runs through it and out the bottom. I could be different with filters attached directly to the throttle bodies. When the bike's running I'm sure it sucks in a fair bit of moisture but it hasn't effected the way the bike runs or caused any problems.

Just talked to Bob at Carpenter Racing and he said I should send the filters right out to them to check them out. I'd like to roll out with a tune that exactly reflects what I'll have when riding, so I think this should work out. I'm probably going to ask them to leave the exhaust core (baffle) in my Reband pipe too, so I'll probably lose a good number of ponies to those 2 restrictions. I guess I'll find out when they get it put together and on the dyno!

I'll post more info when I get anything new.

I have ridden in pouring rain with no ill effect, but but I have never had to leave it parked out in heavy rain for any lenght of time (more than half hour) so it might be adivisable to throw something over the bike or at least the tank/filter area if you have to leave it for any lenght of time, I would definetly be getting it tuned with Exhaust and Filters as you plan to run bike, I have heard both Rebands and Brutes with Baffles In and both are reasonably loud enough with baffles in and being reved out thru the gears, so i Would Hate to hear or have to put up with the Racket they would produce with out them, so what if you lose a couple of HP you will still have more than enough.

I tend to agree about the exhaust noise... the Reband pipe and baffle are about as loud as I am comfortable with. As much as it tickles me to hear the thunderous noise of a straight pipe, I have to remember that I have to live with the bike and trimming a bit of power off the top end will be all but invisible anyway.

As for covering the filters, I believe my Frog Togs came in a handy weatherproof bag that would fold up and fit in a pocket nicely. I bet that would fit easily over the filters if I need to park for a while in nasty weather.

I know there are dozens of Carpenter themed threads I could have put this on, but I haven't been able to find this exact discussion, and I'd really like some input before I drop my bike off this Sat.

Can any of you more experienced gents provide a bit of comparison between the 210+ and 240+ kits on the road? I'm not planning to spend my life on the drag strip, but I also don't want to "half ass" and end up regretting it. Do you feel a big difference in power throughout the rev range between stage 1 and stage 2?

If 210+ feels like limitless power on the street, and 240+ just raises the ceiling that I'm already failing to touch, I'm not sure it's worth the extra bills (for me, at least).

I want the ceiling to be out of my reach, I just don't want to spend another $1800 on HP I'll never actually feel in a street environment. (PS: This could be renamed the "Talk Norseman into getting the 240+ kit thread)

Hi, I've got the 240 kit , go for it, my friend just bought a new Speed Triple, he tried to pass me on the motorway doing 150 mph, I just put it in fourth gear and gave him a chock.

I have never run a NA Carpenter motor as I like to force the air in. But if I ever do this is the filter I will be trying on it.

It is my opinion that it will give enough flow maybe not as much as no filters but I believe it will be better then any of the triple filters.

disclaimer this is my own design and has not been tested on a Carpenter motor.
