Air Filter Removal 2005 Rocket III

CanberraR3 is right its probable just stuck and with a little help will lift off. In the difficultly level of service jobs this comes under (POP) piece of piss ....like Tomcat says go for the K&N filter and let your engine breath. Once fitted let the bike idol for 5 mins so the ECU works out the air fuel mixture and its done. :)

I will give it another try.
The previous owner replaced the stock pipes with other Triumph pipes that flow freer than the stock ones or so I was told.
I am afraid to go for a K&N since there is already some light backfiring on deceleration coming to a stop. Any advice on that?

Replace with a K&N underseat filter , get down to local Triumph Dealer and check you are running the TORS tune. May have been done by previous owner but I'd be making sure.

When the guy changed the pipes he got rid of the cat as well. Me, personally I prefer a stock bike. I can't take the headache caused by having to constantly tuning the bike. Been there done that with some Harleys I used to own. Not worth it especially with the Rocket. It has killer power and torque the way it is. I wouldn't mess with it.
Going back to TORS, I didn't even know what that was but I do now after reading about it.
I will have to make an appointment and take the bike in for a general inspection. I am thinking about putting the stock pipes back on but I don't know if I can still use them without the cat in place.

You can run stock pipes with no cat. I did for a while. Not really louder than with a cat but a bit deeper sounding. You'll like it. I don't think an underseat K&N will do much if anything for flow; maybe a little better than the stock one when a bit dirty (ie it filters better) but the real advantage is that it is serviceable rather than throw away. The pop on deceleration is due to the pipes, although you could still have it with or without the TORs tune. As TC suggested, check which tune has been put in the bike.

If you go for the cat delete with stock pipes and triple filters (or RamAir) then I can send you a tune which you can install for free with TuneECU. I had my bike dyno-tuned with that setup. TuneECU is the most cost effective and usefull tool that you can possibly get for your RIII.

You are right about Tune ECU but the tune for your bike done on the dyno is not necessarily right for another bike. There are to many variables between engines for one map to fit all. However it will be in the right ball park but to be sure on AFR it should go on a dyno as yours did & even then a power commander or the like may well be needed to get it all running efficiently & safely.
