Tune question

I had stock tune 20226 for cat eliminator. Stock 20226 has the 2nds closed down from rpm 1709 to 4000 from as little as 34% up to 91%. The rpm lower and higher is at 100%. After I installed the AFR Plus I dynoed it to see what difference the AFR+ made. I found the power dips were there. Did not feel them from the butt dyno. So first I changed all of the 2nds in the range to 75%. Dips went away.
After testing several more ideas I decided to load the fancy 20050 (Finaltorcatbypassdecel). This tune had the dip just at the 3 places mentioned earlier. So I changed just those 3 places to 75% which got rid of the dips. I gained 4 more TQ and 1 HP with fancy 20050 so I left in in the bike.

Thanks for all your info. You & dougl have helped me a lot in figuring out how I want to configure my setup. I've been reading all of the info on the Dobeck site........... Hell, I've even learned some things  and that's scary!
Just tryin to not improve things "even worse"

The AFR+ wouldn't help the 20226 because the secondaries were closed. You could have opened the secondaries on the 20226 tune and the AFR+ would have added the fuel needed to compensate for the lack of fuel in 20226. 20050 is not fancy. It is the original stock exhaust tune for the R3, with secondaries open and speedo corrected, then dynoed for fuel. You might note that Tuneboy claimed 145 hp/157 ft with this tune for TORs/cat bypass. Dynos are different and bikes are different. And that was for some bike in Australia.

From my dyno tests in 2006, I saw a big improvement from using 20050 in the spots where 20226 closed the secondaries but not all that much difference elsewhere. You could use anything as a base tune so long as the secondaries are open 100% and the Dobek would compensate pretty well it seems. It also seems that with the Dobek, you're only dealing with 6 A/F target numbers rather than over 200 for the Power Commander.

dougl, At the time I installed my DP AFR+ on my bike, with tune 20226 with the partially closed 2nds, it did achieve a respectable power increase with that tune. I gained 10 TQ and 19 HP. Not sure what your bike did. Do you have a DP AFR+ on your bike ?

19 hp and 10 ft lbs more than what?

My 2005 had tors and cat bypass. The dyno tests are above. All I did was load the 20050 tune and it increased the peak torque from 144 to 150. But in the 2500 to 3000 rpm range, the 20050 was 12 ft lbs higher. But you'll notice that with the 20226 tune peak torque was at 3500 rpm.

In post #32 you said, "The AFR+ wouldn't help the 20226 because the secondaries were closed".

My response is letting the forum members know your claim is not accurate in my case. I won't claim how much others have or will fair on this, but I think they have/will gain too. I am talking about the gains my bike made by adding the DP AFR+ to the stock tune 20226.

I would like to know what your personal experience is with the DP AFR+. Do you have one on your Rocket ?

I have no experience with the DP AFR+ other than what you've said about it. I have a PCIII on my 2007 with Jardines and triple K&Ns which was custom dyno tuned.

Yes and no. I opened them 100% but saw 3 dips on the dyno. I closed the 2nds to 75% at 2500, 2750 and 4500 rpm. That little tweak got ride of the power dip at those rpm and smoothed out the curve to maintain a nice continuous rising line as it should be.

75% in all gears I assume????
I just did the 20050 tune download
