Tune question

UPDATE: 4/15/2024 Just want to let everybody know Dobeck does not offer this anymore for the Rockets. There was an ECU change Triumph made somewhere in early 2010s that cause a problem with the AFR Plus that would not allow it work correctly anymore. The best thing to do is to find a good dyno tuner that can adjust your ECU using TuneECU.

I had a PC5 with Autotune on my old VRod, and you had to run it, up load the data, then re-map it... Pain in the ass.
But if if this truly does it on the fly, it REALLY IS A AUTOTUNE, and I'm all in.

There was an interesting thread a few years ago on Dobek vs PC. As far as I can see, both autotune systems need A/F targets. Dobeck either fixes them for its 6 zones or lets you set them, don't know how it works, but the ease of use claim would suggest you don't need to set your own targets. The PCV autotune requires you to set the A/F target table. Both adjust the fuel by load using the measured wideband signal. With the PCV, you can apply the trims and change the base map in the PCV. Then you can continue to iterate that process until the trims don't change. I don't know what the Dobek does. I do know that any good dyno tuner can set the fuel for max torque at any load because the dyno measures torque. He'll sit at each load in the TP - RPM table until he optimizes the torque or attains an A/F he is happy with.

Where did you put your O2 sensor for the exhaust?
 
You take out the Triumph narrow band sensor and install the AFR Plus wideband sensor in that same bung hole.

Bosch O2 Sensor - Installed in the exhaust pipe in order to make AFR readings. Replaces factory narrowband sensor in some applications, but most applications require an O2 bung be welded into the exhaust pipe in a certain location. Locations are given in the PRODUCT section. EXPERT WELDER REQUIRED

From PRODUCT section:
Controller comes with O2 Bypass OX-011. Your stock O2 connection needs to be disconnected and the bypass installed.

The Bosch Wideband O2 Sensor replaces the stock narrowband sensor for this application.


Doesn't that mean you put the bypass in the factory location & install the bung for the wideband on the header?

INSTALLING THE BOSCH O2 SENSOR:
The first step in an AFR+ installation is determing where the O2 sensor will be installed. Some after-market exhausts already have an O2 bung installed. Some applications also just require the replacement of the stock narrowband O2 sensor. Other installations will require the welding of an O2 bung into the exhaust pipe. Dobeck supplies a flat O2 bung or a 45 degree O2 bung for all applications where the factory narrowband is NOT replaced. In these cases the O2 bung should be installed by a proficient welder. Operation of an AFR gauge relies on the proper installation of the oxygen sensor bung.



INSTALLATION NOTES:
  • Install on front head pipe whenever possible.

  • Sensor should be placed at an angle greater than 10 degrees from horizontal as shown in picture below. Allows for water to NOT accumulate around the sensor.

  • Make sure to mark the location of the O2 bung to be welded in before removing the exhaust pipe from the vehicle. We highly suggest installing a new exhaust pipe on the vehicle before taking a guess of where the O2 bung should be welded. Space is limited on a number of applications. Make sure to inspect the Bosch O2 sensor to get an idea of the space required to install the sensor into the O2 bung.
 
With the AFR+, you're not using the narrow band stock sensor. Like the PC, Dobek should supply a part that plugs into the cable coming from the ECU to the stock O2 sensor to disable closed loop in the ECU. The Bosch sensor should replace the stock sensor, which you should remove. If it doesn't, there should be an adapter. Drilling and welding is bull****. The Dobeck setup goes into closed loop not at the ECU but at the fuel module.
 
Yup , When it says "Replaces factory narrowband sensor in some applications" that must include the Rocket since That's what Bill says he did.

It seems very similar to the PC AT except that it has less zones. It has suggested AF targets like the PC AT but gives you the option to change the targets. Maybe simplicity is better in this case. It would be nice if instead of all the blibber blabber, people could just have their kits dyno tested.
