RamAir & Wet or Rainy Conditions??

RamAirs USUALLY come treated - But I too have a clean/recharge kit handy. That said I have yet to clean it. I have swabbed the inside surface a couple of times and it is still clean.

Fine dust is the bugger. Every so often we get dust carried up from the Sahara - seldom reaches us here - but if it can cause respiratory problems I doubt it's good for engines. I have a mate on the Canary Islands - they stay indoors when the Calima hits. It's like driving on ball bearings.

As for water: Well any pressure washer is a bad thing to aim at ANY orifice. I don't use hoses either - Just rinse with a bucket and all is fine.

I recall those winds being called Sirocco when we used to do port visits in Spain. What is the Calima?

Bedifferent,I run my bike with out the bearclaw and can tell you that rain does not effect the ramair if it is properly maintained.I was caught in torrential rain so bad you couldn't see the painted white lines on the road. Iwas on my way to catch a ferry so I couldn't stop, when I got on board the water was dripping out of the filter but the bike ran ok. I never worry about the filter in the wet now.

Ah, it sounds like the same but not as bad. The link refers to Calima and its big brother Sirocco.

I experienced the Sirocco at sea one time while a Navigator on a Guided Missile Cruiser. It came up after we transited the Strait of Gibraltar. It was near hurricane force winds and kicked up the heaviest seas I'd ever experienced in the Med. The problem was that in heavy seas you turn into the wind but the winds were coming from the south as we transited east. Didn't last long before we were out of it though. I think the winds we experienced during our Spanish port visits years later were probably the Calima.

I only use buckets and a sponge to clean the bike, never a hose.

Haven't had any problems with rain and once or twice it has been torrential.

I live in Seattle area. I rode to work everyday from March 14 - July 6th. It rained every single day in March and April, exposed PX-600 filter (no bear claw, just foam open to the world and 3x the size of RAMAIR) zero issues with rain.

Lived in Hawaii and rode in any and all weather with RAMAIR fitted both with and without Bearclaw, no issues at all. That includes a life changing drenching climbing H3 at 30 mph because cars couldn't see anything, was like wtf people GO! lol.

I wash my bike, no bag, no issues.

Your motor will ingest a LOT of water before you have any issues, check out all the guys using water injection kits... or the new M4 BMW (has a water kit stock).

Ride on, nothing to worry about.
