R III or Victory XC

Based on your requirements, it appears that the R3 Touring and the Cross Country are basically the same with the notable and significant difference in power. Bags, Boards, Big Seat, check, check, check.

Since you and I share riding styles, there might be a few more items to consider.

The R3 Touring runs on Regular gas. 87 here in the States.
The Victory requires Premium. I don't know about you but paying 30+ cents a gallon more for gas is an aggrevation.

R3 Touring oil change service intervals are 10,000 miles or 12 months.
From what I can gather from the internet, it looks like the Vic's is quite low, as in the 2,500-3,500 mile range. Yikes!!

Some items in favor of the Victory:

1) factory cruise control - the #1 item that I wish Triumph would offer.
2) factory trunk - nice to have if that is your thing. Aftermarket options are available for the R3T.
3) factory audio - my #2 wish list item from Triumph.

That's about as objective as I can be. I'd love to have the extras that the Vic has to offer but I don't see myself giving up the power and the uniqueness offered by the Rocket.

I have rode both and agree with tdragger on all points and could add one or two more ..but he last statement "power and uniqueness" say it all...

because when out riding with my v-twin brothers & sisters and we stop guess who's bikes ..everyone come looks at and i have to do the 100 question ..can I take a pic ..
............it's my Triumph rocket tour III:D

Ed:cool:

Talking about audio I have XM satellite radio with powered J&M speakers, I have a Garmin GPS and as far as cruise control goes I have a throttle Mizer throttle lock which you have enough horsepower and torque that you do not have to do much adjusting with 2 up and pulling a trailer. Have a friend who has a victory nice bike but I'll stick with my rocket III just my opinion

I ride 2 up most of the time, and like some power, so the rocket was the choice for me...Also, I prefer shaft drive over a belt, and liquid cooling also...It's a unique motorcycle, but of course the final decision will by yours, and what suits your needs, but ride them both for sure....good luck...Larry

What a coincidence, my brother bought a XC last saturday. I met him at the Vic dealership on my Rocket. He had to wait as the salesmen and lead mechanic came over and gave the girl a once over. The mechanic is really knowledgeable on the rocket and wasn't helping with the sales of the XC at all. :D
My brother doesn't have the need for speed like me which explains his choice.
It looks like a nice cruiser, plenty of storage, cruise control, stereo, air ride.
I sat on it, felt ok, but I had to actually kick the "kickstand" to get it in the final position. The floor board was in the way and it doesn't even come with a heel/toe shifter that you would expect on a $23,000.00 bike.

BTW, he couldn't hear that stereo as I blasted past him leaving the dealership.

IMHO, I paid $13,000.00 for my new 08' classic and with another $10,000.00 I think I could dress her the way I want and have a sh!t load of cash left for fuel.
my 2 cents

Rocket is also not very comfortable, the most i have been able to ride in one day 2 up is 1,000 miles last year from MV to Tulsa:D
