Numbers don't match???

It is a BOOST LIMITING VALVE, and the turbo is an Aerocharger with variable vanes.
The ONLY contact I have had with this bike was two owners ago. I was asked to perform a compression test, install a customer supplied boost limit valve, and hold the bike until it shipped.
For more details, contact prior owners.
Didn't realize the valve was customer supplied. Thanks for confirming it's a BLV and not a BOV. That's what I wanted to know. I'm thinking I probably won't hook up the vacuum line then. Will probably pressurize the custom air plenum it's on though to make sure it works. Call me paranoid I guess but it doesn't need any more blown head gaskets!

And thanks for your explanation warp. I remember talking to you on the phone too before I bought the bike and you were trying to explain it to me then. I've since researched it even more and understand the difference. Just wasn't sure what I had. It sure looks like a BOV instead of a BLV from all the pictures I can find on-line.

The engine number and the vin number are different.

The numbers don't match on mine and has known history. I don't think you need to worry.

Thanks guys. I won't worry about it. I'm sure it must the original engine then. I just wouldn't have figured that Triumph marks them differently. That means only the original owner can be 100% sure it hasn't been replaced.

That's one thing that is good about the UK registration system (probably the only one), when first registered the engine and frame numbers are noted on the 'Registration Certificate'. Any future owner only has to check the numbers on the bike against the cert to know if they are original. If either are changed a new cert has to be issued with new numbers and a note to indicate the changes.

Isn't there something similar in the US?

In the US only the chasis or frame VIN (vehicle identification number) is on the title. If the vehicle is totalled in an accident and somebody repairs it you end up with what is known as a "salvage" title. That's the only identifier I've ever seen on a title to let a future owner know the vehicle is not original. Nothing like that for the engine.
