I am considering a 2006 R IIIClassc

Rocket Scientist, Please diagram that mod for us and explain it's benefits in detail.

Davemn, I have a 2006 standard and had a 2006 Classic for a few months to do a performance test comparison. The Classic was slightly detuned but you can put that back in with the TuneEcu freeware.
I thought I would like the Classic bars better but after riding the Classic I like the Standard bars better. No second gear problems but I purchased the up-date kit to have on the shelf should symptoms arise. The up-date kit only costs $209 USD and has about $2000 worth of parts in it. Pick one up just to have.

BTW: What is the asking price for the bike you are considering? Here in Idaho my former 2006 Classic test bike is for sale at the local Triumph dealer for $7995 with 19,000 miles, a TuneEcu performance enhancment and over $2000 worth of additional accessories.

Thanks guys for all the info The bike I am looking at appears to be a Classic model (2 tone paint). He is asking $8500 for it. It does have a few goodies. I went shopping today and found 2 Roadster models, both 2014's, both flat black ( I don't like flat back), both less than 200 miles. Both dealers were asking $13,200 for them. Very tempting for sure. I guess I could repaint in the off season. One dealer said the pre 2000 models had drive shaft issues. I ride a Honda Valkyrie which I plan to keep, I like big motors.

The trick with the resistor mod is to put it in the gear recognition wiring and so make the ECU think that it is in 4th gear all the time - when it is not in neutral. This gets rid of the speed limiter (5th gear) and closed secondaries (1,2,3 gears). TuneECU (or TuneBoy) can do that for you as well, plus lots of other things. The mod has sort of disappeared since TuneECU came along.

Does this mod void the warranty?

It would void the warranty only on something that it affected, if it voided it at all. So the short answer is, probably not. However, TuneECU is a far, far better way to go as it can open the secondaries and adjust the top speed. btw, how often do you think you will be riding over 130mph?

Go up to the search box, type in resistor mod and check the box that says search titles only. Good info there. More info on the .com site.

I've had both bikes. I liked the paint, the handlebars and floorboards of the 07. I did have to make the tranny upgrade but that was done before I hit 10,000 miles. Unfortunately I wrecked the bike with 23,000 miles on it. I then bought a 12 rocket roadster. the 12 is a much more refined machine. I moved a lot of the accessories from the classic onto the roadster and it looks fine. Crash bars, leatherlyke luggage and windscreen with lowers all went over with no problems. I have to tell you, I like the 2012 much better and for the price difference, I think it is a much better deal. just my opinion.

I just purchased a 06 Standard in Jet Black with 10K miles a month ago. 2,000 miles later I have had no issues. I did do the Eastern Beaver headlight / ignition bypass and fit a set of NOS Trimiph Off Road Silencers with the cat bypass down pipe. I have not had the second gear transmission issue, and I tried hard to make it jump out of second, but it has been rock solid...
