Davemn, I have a 2006 standard and had a 2006 Classic for a few months to do a performance test comparison. The Classic was slightly detuned but you can put that back in with the TuneEcu freeware.
I thought I would like the Classic bars better but after riding the Classic I like the Standard bars better. No second gear problems but I purchased the up-date kit to have on the shelf should symptoms arise. The up-date kit only costs $209 USD and has about $2000 worth of parts in it. Pick one up just to have.
BTW: What is the asking price for the bike you are considering? Here in Idaho my former 2006 Classic test bike is for sale at the local Triumph dealer for $7995 with 19,000 miles, a TuneEcu performance enhancment and over $2000 worth of additional accessories.
