Changing fuel filter

For the record, I reused the gasket on the tank plate, no issues, no leaks, it, as well as the in tank hoses, were still soft and pliable 4 years and 7 months after manufacture of the bike.
Me too, will save the gasket, washers, etc. for another day.....was amazed that my 12 year old bike did not need new gasket or washers......I did replace the filter and hoses, although the hoses were still flexible and appeared unworn after 24,000 miles. After draining the gas and blowing through the Triumph brand filter I could barely feel any air flowing through it. I did replace the sender unit and that fixed my faulty gas gauge. I've read that WIX filters are cheap and not good.....so I bought a NAPA Gold filter for double the WIX cost......only to find out that the NAPA Gold is made by WIX, says so on the NAPA box, and is identical in every way to the WIX filter(which I also bought) accept for the markings.o_O:thumbsdown:

just because it is a triumph filter how do u know that it is better than wix?
has anyone ever cut the filter open and measured the length of the material?
of coarse i am not saying that just because one has more material that it is better.
just looking for answers.

For what it's worth, I took a pair of tin snips to the end of the metal filter housing and pulled out the pleated paper filter. 87,000 miles and 2600 gallons of fuel...I was surprised at how relatively clean the filter was.

i think how clean the filter is based on how clean is the gas u r buying
i have always bought from the same place and usually from the same pump, except when i am on a run i just hate to buy from an old gas station that may have old steel tanks that make rust.
i have changed a few car filters that was plugged with rust.

I rode 200 miles today on my NAPA Gold filter costing twice as much as a WIX filter.....but made by and identical to the WIX filter and my bike has NEVER run better......so , personnally, I think this MAHLE filter deal is a bunch of do-do.

Yes the Wix will let the bike run fine for a while. Maybe forever. It will let larger bits of debris through to the injectors. My main reason for not using it is the Wix only filters to 20 microns. The spec from Triumph is 10 microns. Thus my reason for using the Mahle KL 145.

I just replaced my filter yesterday and it solved my occasional stumbles at low RPMs and definitely improved performance across the board. I installed the Mahle KL-145 and reused the seal and banjo bolt washers, original hoses and clamps. While I was at it I emptied my tank to remove the krud that was floating around in there.

Here's what my filter looked like at 27K. It's undoubtedly the original, as the previous owner didn't have a record of ever changing it. I'd say it was a bit overdue.
