The 444-4209B/C is the part Progressive claim is right for the rocket at stock length for standard duty spring. Its a 125/170 lbs/in spring at 12.5" long. My set is a 120/170 lbs/in spring and I think it's a touch to hard so... yeah. They call for part number 444-4213 as the 13" "Rocket" set, which, has a 120/170 spring lol.
See how I don't really care what they claim is right yet?
13.5"
440-4239B/C 440 series shocks (out of production)
444-4239B/C 444 series shocks
I have 440s, but the 444 carried over the last 4 digits of the model numbers from the 440. For posterity:
Part Numbers that will work with the rocket and will help you tailor the ride to your weight/road conditions:
444-4019B/C or 4440-4207B/C - This is stock 12.5 length but slightly softer springs, by about 10%, if you are thin (170lb or so) or like a slightly more plush ride and have good quality roads where you live. 115/150 lbs/in.
444-4050B/C - Same as 4019 but only 12" long, would work if your short and meet all the things listed for the 444-4019B/C. 115/150 lbs/in.
444-4212B/C - 13", light spring, for riders under 150lb that dont carry a pillion or luggage ever and want a suspension more on the smooth side vs sporty side. 105/150 lbs/in.
444-4215B/C - same as 4212 with 13.5" length, same very light spring. 105/150 lbs/in.
444-4238 - 13" Uses the 1365 spring, 120/170 lbs/in.
444-4239 - 13.5" Same as 4238 with more length.
444-4244 - 13.5" Same as 4239 from all published specs.
To qualify the above list, Progressive doesn't list the eyelet diameters or the eyelet adapters that come with each part number. SO, I can confirm ALL of those part numbers use eyelets top/bottom, and all have appropriate springs as I have described them, and all will work on the rocket, but I cannot guarantee they all come with the correct eyelet bushing. My 440-4239C set came with bushings that worked with the R3R, so... I duno, but there ya have it all the "alternate" shocks (not including the heavy duty ones) that will work with the R3 from published specs.
Additionally, there may be unpublished differences between them, who knows, but i know my "Valkyrie" shocks are working great
The part numbers 444.4239 and 444-4244 are 100% identical in the fitment guide... at a loss to explain that one....
Sadly, Progressive don't make what I think would be the perfect shock, the 115/155 spring rate instead of the 1365 spring (120/170) in 13.5" length, and I am too fat for the 105/150 spring.
Sorry this got long but...
Remember the shorter your shock, the more of its travel you will use with a given spring rate, so a 105/150 in 11" vs a 105/150 in 13" is a whole different ball game and you very will might like that rate in a longer shock but a shorter one might have you bumping off the bump stop constantly...
