I believe it was @Mittzy who got to the real issue which is the spade terminals inside the plug to the starter relay get corroded and loosen up over time. When I installed my new super duper battery cables I removed the terminals one by one (you have to depress a little metal tongue inside the plastic part) and cleaned and re-crimp them then applied di-elecric grease. Also cleaned the spades sticking out of the relay. Hasn't done the "click" since.

I’ve done every modification and upgrade to my starting system mentioned on this site and still had a starting issue every now and then! the last thing I did was replaced the relay with an OEM relay 2 years ago and it has not happened since! The triumph relay is proprietary! It has a suppression protection in it, that protects the ECU! Only use the OEM relay! I’m glad I did all the up grades but I could have saved a few bucks if I did the relay first?!
Just my 2cents worth!
To Jag, I haven't been on site for a few days, HOWEVER, you my friend have answered the single most important question I have had. Thank very much, I will be getting a new relay from Triumph, my man @ Therapy Garage here in Traverse City MI will be thrilled to install it. I also am going to take the starter to A.I.S. where they will go through the entire unit, including selonoidI also would like to thank everyone who has helped me, look forward to responding with good news
So when it doesn't start, what are the symptoms? Do you get a clicking sound on pressing the start button? Does the headlight go out? Does the starter sound like it's engaging then groans to a stop. Does the engine spin over and won't start? What is the battery voltage with bike off and running? How do you get the bike to start when it happens.... turn handle bars??? Have you checked the battery and starter connections.

If it is what I'm thinking, I'd pull the starter and polish/replace the solenoid contacts and also swap out the starter relay. We've even seen the start button corrode and need cleaning. Just guessing here thoughl
Thank you brother I believe that is the best plan also, having local starter rebuild shop go through it. As well as the other items discussed, told oem relay is best.

Another genius, thanks, all these things are going to be addressed as well install 2nddary relay and starter is assessed. Thank you again, I know me, I needed to hear what you said also

Sounds like a battery connection is loose or has a little corrosion. It's a very common issue. I always carry a 10mm just for this.

Thank you, looses cables is not an issue this time. But I do carry a handy dandy ratcheting battery tool in the left pannier.

@Jag what has to be done to upgrade starter. I've heard that it's an easy process, (exchange one part for another)
