Hey tankx for reaching. It is a very intermittent issue, the other day I pulled up to a drive thru window. Shut off the bike, tried to restart no good, simply rolled bike away from window turned ign back on started up. Sometimes it takes 5 min, and a host of other maneuvers. Planning to pull starter and ask local rebuild shop go through it and solenoid. Up grade to more power? What needs to be done to accomplish this? Secondary relay? What's the best relay to install as secondary, or just double up on stock triumph relays? Any advice would be appreciated, am wanting to travel this fall, no time to play with this any longer.
So when it doesn't start, what are the symptoms? Do you get a clicking sound on pressing the start button? Does the headlight go out? Does the starter sound like it's engaging then groans to a stop. Does the engine spin over and won't start? What is the battery voltage with bike off and running? How do you get the bike to start when it happens.... turn handle bars??? Have you checked the battery and starter connections.

If it is what I'm thinking, I'd pull the starter and polish/replace the solenoid contacts and also swap out the starter relay. We've even seen the start button corrode and need cleaning. Just guessing here thoughl

Start with checking your battery cables for tightness. These beasts have a finicky ECU when it comes to voltage and starting.
Next , take some notes on what EXACTLY is happening like Gregger suggested. Could be a quick 5 minute fix or some actual starter/electrical issues.

Thank you, I'm tracking w/ you, there is a rebuild shop here am going to take starter out and have them go through it and make sure solenoid is working properly. Do you believe upgrading starter power is something to do? And what kind of relay should I use for a secondary relay. Assuming you believe wiring in a 2nd relay is beneficial. Re: your ?'s, everything lights up, sweeps, etc. Hit button, lights go out and there is a click and nothing. Pulled up to take out window shut engine off took food turned switch back on no start rolled bike away from window turned switch back on and it started right up. Sometimes yea somtimes na. Brand new 310cca battery

Hey Stillserving;

Sounds like a battery connection is loose or has a little corrosion. It's a very common issue. I always carry a 10mm just for this.

I’ve done every modification and upgrade to my starting system mentioned on this site and still had a starting issue every now and then! the last thing I did was replaced the relay with an OEM relay 2 years ago and it has not happened since! The triumph relay is proprietary! It has a suppression protection in it, that protects the ECU! Only use the OEM relay! I’m glad I did all the up grades but I could have saved a few bucks if I did the relay first?!
Just my 2cents worth!

Did it start occurring before or after new battery installed?
