I got xenon bulbs from my dealer. They're much brighter but I don't think the pattern from the lamps is much different - ergo, they don't make that much difference on pitch black windy mountain roads.
Xsighting lighting makes a 5 3/4 lamp ($785 for 2). These are the most kick ass lights (Xenon/HID high and low beams) out there .
I saw a HID set up in my Kirk the Jerk catalog where the ballast fits in the headlight bucket itself......Price was what I consider an over-the-top 700 clams each light. 1400 clams can buy a **** pile of regular bulbs.

$785 for 2, 5 3/4" lamps. That certainly isn't chickenfeed but the pattern of these beams makes ours look like a flashlight. Although the 5 3/4 size seems right, I don't think they would fit in our bikes. They're only available for HD's and cars.
I have to add that I thought the price was for each. I'll stand corrected on that one.
Maybe my headlights are a fluke, but, I ride quite a bit at night on country 2 lane roads and other than adjusting the lights when I first got the bike (I spread them apart a little and aimed them up a little) I can see just fine.
Someone, who was it herein this post, mentioned they're appreciation for the 'Sylvania Silverstar" ? Bought a set and will have 'em out for a night vision check tomorrow eve.
Half the price of the PIAA Extreme Whites...I'll see how they improve vision for a cyclops.
Gotta keep them Aux. Fog lamps going though. They are bright white. The xenons ARE far too yellow in comparison. The new silverstars will have to match up! The color temp is stated at 4K. The back sez 3.4K for Standard Halogen. Couldn't tell you the number on those xenon. But, they were half the cost of these **** silverstars. They got us by the short hairs. But, they're (silverstars) only half of that of PIAAs Extremes. Frankly, I can't see myself leaping sand dunes or waggin it on a motocross with a RIII.
I'm thinking I don't care a lot for those blinding cagers with duel Extreme Blue headlights ruining my night vision. And that's when I'm in a cager myself.
Someone mentioned meeting a blinding high beam on a hair-pin. Sending a signal ahead that YOU'RE shooting the beam may get you the wrong response. Having your beams maladjusted can be that signal. Having them **** blue light night-vision destroyers may be another. Not being able to see the solid white line may mean a wall for someone.
Twas a bit delayed...they are considerably whiter that the xenons they've replaced. And up to the same white as the Aux. fog lamps. They'll do just fine.:bch:
The packaging sez "The Look Of HID, whitest, brightest". I've never had HID so I'm not backing that, but they are mighty mighty fine
