WELL dont get too excited others have used the Avons before and went to the Excedra max and said it was a big improvement any new tires feel great compared to the worn out tires they replace LOL
I live in Scotland ,ride in the rain most of the time and the Cobra's are up to the job ok,far better than Metzlers. Been using avons for about 7 years now.

I think you have a point about new tires making the ride feel great compared to the old tires. I notice the same thing when I put new tires on my truck. I just put an Excedra Max on the front to match the Max I put on the rear last year. I never realized how bad my old Metz looked until I took the front tire off and wheeled it free from the bike. It still had reasonable tread but the wear pattern looked like crap. I decided to go with the Max the first time around because they have a V rating instead of the H like the Cobra. I suspect the H rating might make the Cobra a little more compliant giving it a better ride. The Max felt pretty gummy and grippy if that means anything. Next time I might try the Cobras...it's an unresolved debate here on the forum with most not caring all that much for the Metz.
I think a tri-compound tire with 4 belts using hard/medium/soft center outward would last plenty long. The cruiser market just hasn't yet demanded truly good tires yet, so we get decent tires that do the job.
Speaking of multi-compound tires... Is the Excedra Max the only one that fits the stock rear rim?
