wanting to go darkside

Im gonna stick motorcycle tires on my car:eek:
now whos going darkside:D
na not really
ive never tried car tires on the bike so i cant really coment
i just dont understand why u would want to?
is it a cost thing?
i like to ride the bike hard and ride alot through the twisties i dont think i would be comfortable with a car tire on there but thats just me:cool:
Dont want to start a whole thing about it but i kinda think they make motorcycle tires for a reason TO GO ON MOTORCYCLES
 oh no i just opened up a can of worms didnt i.
Like i said though its just an opinion i havent tried one so cant really judge:D

I said the very same comment you have made not to long ago and just so happens I have car tire on my motorcycle. I got a nail in my MT so I said
"Well might as well go for it.... I won't know until I try it."

Mitch I said the same thing when I got my Rocket then I met "Ruzzle" from the other forum and went for a ride there were four of us I was going right to the edge of the metz and scrapeing this is on a bike I had only put 500km's on (the other two were rockets also the other two were more sedate) and Ruzz and I left them to the point we had to stop to let them catch up while I was not racing or trying to lose him I would even call it a casual ride he was up there with me all the time I then followed him and saw for my own eyes that the damm thing was hanging on better than my crap metz which would start to sqirm coming out of corner on the gas but not heavy on the gas I have since been on that same road countless times on the darkside with out even a twich, that first and last metz only gave me 6000km's it was never a cost thing I just like to have a tyre that hangs on, don't even get stared at how well it grips in the wet.:D I am in no way trying to twist your arm just go for a ride with some one who happens to have a darkside and knows how to ride and just observe then make up your own mind if you want to try the first couple hunder km's You will have to take it easy till you find the correct pressure for you and you have to adapt to a bit more counter steer but that can be improved by getting rid of that poor excuse for a front tyre metz the Shinko ( my choice) or the Avon, Bridgestone other peoples choices are al far better tyres even if you never go darkside;)

Maybe ill give one a go at some stage i havent even tried a different breed of mt on her yet ive always used the metz but i also only get around the 6000 k out of the rear.
I have never found grip an issue with them though but then again my springs dont even move when i get on the bike only weighing in at 77kg wringing wet not sure if that would be a factor or not.
But im happy with the metz so havent botherd to try anything else maybe its time for me to experiment i might surprise myself

Mitch, I've got Avons front and rear and think they're a huge improvement on the Metz, both for wear and grip. I'm about the same weight as you.

I'm undecided about darkside but not closed to it; guess I'm pretty much like you. One thing that seems odd is that almost everyone comments that it takes a bit of getting used to. I reckon that if I test rode a bike that had the handling characteristics of d/s Rocket I'd say it was crap and would not buy it. It's a premium machine and I can't see the sense in compromising on something like that, even for (or especially for) a few $ saving.

Having said that, I've ridden with Hanso and Ruzzle and everything Hanso says is spot on. He throws his bike around as good as anyone I've seen and, while that big fat rear of his looks a little bit out of place on a bike (I'm talking about the tyre - probably) - you'd never know from the way it goes and manoeuvers he was riding on anything not made for the bike.

You also hear a lot about people scraping when riding d/s, as if that somehow proves better handling. I've found that I can get through a corner just as fast with an MT without scraping (as much). I guess it's a more natural line and attitude that the bike takes with a MT without the need for wads of counter steer, which presumably brings the bike over more to counteract the natural tendancy for the CT to ride upright. Plus I get very even wear from my front tyre, edge to edge. Bikes with CTs seem to scrub the front a little more so there's a slight offset to the saving from the CT rear.

I'd be happy to try out someone elses d/s but for now I'll stick with my Avons and maybe try a higher profile Bridgestone (off a C109) when I need a new rear in quite a few more ,000 kms.

Just my 2 cents worth.

yeah i think ill stick to mt but might just try a few diferent breeds
im sure the ct is fine but i think the shape of a mt is always going to be more suited for cornering without changing my ride style.
Might even try the Avons next .
I have mates that have tried both and some swear by metz and others say avons so i guess ill just have to try them for myself i guess:cool:

I'm not closed to ever going back to a MT but have reservations about wet weather grip with both the Avon and the Brigdestone, heard mixed reports on both but will never go back to metz also it is funny you should mention the even wear Richard inthe ACT the roads have near perfect camber I have even let go of the bars when arriving in Canberra and the bike will track straight do that in NSW and the bike will head for the bush on the side of the road

If your happy with a MT then keep it. If you go DS you will not be happy because its a different ride. If your not happy with a MT then try DS and be prepared to learn the ride all over again.
I went DS because I was not happy with MT. I didnt mind learning all over again. I also love the wet traction with DS.
Just an observation!;)

I like to go hard in the corners myself. I used to own a 06 ZX-10R and did some illegal street racing with it. I'm not proud of that... why I'm still alive is beyond me. Now if I was to try to stay up with the ****** rocket crowd and race them I would go back to a MT but this was not my intention when I bought the Roadster.
