Triumph is in trouble

Over here in France (2nd WW market), Triumph is doing very well. Ref. top 20 manufacturers, 2019 results :

First chart shows the units sold with y/y growth and the 2nd one the market share. Guess that in 2020, Triumph will beat Harley (market share over here)

Given the Anglo Saxon migration in the 5th century all the brits are really German...
Well except that 5 centuries later the Normans - ostensibly French but really well integrated Vikings - flushed most of the Saxons to the confines of the grubby bits close to haggis-lickers and Druidic leftovers.

The Saxons (basically Danes) never made it to the areas where large scary men roam Dartmoor (like his cuddlyness @Nat67) - and where corsairs ruled the coastlines.

On the Plus side however - at least most of the Saxon colonists were there of their own free will - not "transported".

Royal Infield is killing Triumph. They sell low tech bikes that are reliable and fun to ride. Exactly what the market is looking for. Triumph on the other hand went with high tech and a expensive price tag. Triumph sells were off prior to covid-19.

Ah yes.. attack of the cheese-eating surrender-monkeys (apologies to Matt Groening)...between them and the Roman empire's prolonged dominance why did the poms settle for boiled cabbage as the national dish?

I always associated cabbage (and boiled beef) with the Irish - a country which somehow had a terrible famine although it is entirely surrounded by fish.

This is why Triumph have recently partnered with Indian company Bajaj to competitively enter this market

The ironic thing here is that history is repeating itself. Triumph ignored the small bike market and gave that away to Honda etc... That allowed Honda to develop the 750 four and that was game over for Triumph... Here we are 50 years on and India / China are the new "Japan" and Royal Enfield is starting to go after Triumph's market. They really do need bikes in the 350-650 range at decent price point to avoid becoming a niche player over time
