transmission noise!!

well i take my hat off to all of you..
you need to check where the bearing surface is and remove any burrs that would keep the new set up from going in(if any). a fine file or sand paper will work. i would use a mirror to check inside for left over debris, especially stuck in the teeth of the gears. also i would buy a can of cleaner to spray in there it might blow out debris(use safety glasses) some one might be able to tell you how to spin the rest of the gears to look for debris.
in the racing trans we built if they have an aluminum pan we epoxy a heavy duty magnet so that if any problem arises it will pick up the debris and not let it go through the rest of the gears.
i think it is about time to pull the bottom pan off of mine.
i am proud that every one stuck with it and was able to succeed.
I looked inside the box where these parts are being replaced and I cannot see any of the possible damages you mention .. thanks for reminding me BTW here are pictures of both bearing being replaced the big one has a bunch of balls missing and of course the cages on both side the small one has an out of true spec you can see how far out the inner race is from the outer . I am sending this to triumph and give them my honest opinion

I know the output drive I sent Fred had the old style bearing maybe he can count how many balls are in it so we can tell how many if any your missing. it might be you caught it just as the cage gave out.

Looks to me that you have all of your balls:rolleyes:
But you would still need to count them and compare as Scott has mentioned I would think.
Doing a great job there Patrick.
Very lucky to catch this when you did.

I do not know how i should take this , fer sure I counted my balls and they are all there now the bearing I do not know

seems to me the new style bearing looks very similar to the old one maybe the steel is a better product

Take it as it is meant- a joke.
You could space out the remaining ball bearings to see if you have all of them as there are two ball bearings still in the cage (so you know the spacing between two) . Just an idea mate

I think if you had lost one ball bearing you would have lost more if not all of them. If you can't remove any of the bearings from your old bearing race you would have them all - even if one ball broke up their would be a good chance all of the other balls would have disintegrated. Just my thoughts.

I counted 13 balls in the big bearing does that seems to be the right number? i did not find any loose balls anywhere else except mines

I think one of the main changes in the rear bearing is it is a sealed unit packed with grease. If your spend as much time as I have starring at the engine trying to figure out how oil was supposed to reach the rear bearing you will know why it now has grease in it. as for the front bearing the oil is fed from the transmission side if it is installed backwards like a lot were it is really hard for it to get lubrication. Thus it ends up being like the rear bearing. Praying to God that some how the oil will reach me. maybe if the guy pulls a lot of wheelies like Steel :D

fred
I put back the gear position sensor but a doubt came over me !! the plug we bolt on can be mounted two ways 180 degres from each position and I did not remember which way is right so I put it on with the connecting wire toward the middle of the rearof engine rather than on the outside figuring nobody would want
The three bolts that are hiding from you are circled in orange below

wire hanging around
So if I ever get pulled over for it, I can claim it was preventative maintenance.
wheelies must last 45 seconds to qualify as lubrication procedure!!
I also decided to give a coat of paint on the radiatorside covers...bad decision as I started sanding them gently I peeled some of that chrome over plastic and..... the cover top and side just fell apart cracked in every direction the chrome layer was what kept it together UNBELIEVABLE!!!structurally gone I guess plastic is not supposed to last much longer than a few years but I start wondering about this whole process ACERBIS is stamped on the back of the 3 pieces of rad covers would that be a bad batch or just a low cost plastic?
