transmission noise!!

THINK SCOTT, WERE LOSING HIM ! You mentioned above that "it is probably 3/4 of an inch lower than its normal position" not sure what you mean ?
I meant if a round bearing or any other round thing in there fell down on the output shaft because something is not holding it this might catch another round gear or ring or something like a ring on a curtain rod in which case i am still F+++cked

In this picture you can see that the gear may have dropped down and caught on the bearing housing to the right of the gear it meshes with. Is there some way you can tilt the cover to lift the gear end of it up ? As you can there isn't much of anything in that area.

Engine pic.jpg
from this picture does the upper gear is supposed to slide out with the output shaft and if so how does it get past the housing to the right? sunday a mechanic working on these bikes is coming to my place maybe he can figure out what to do if not she is going on sale as parts. had enough problems with it trying

When you get it out to where it stops can you still turn the shaft ? If not then my theory about the gear getting caught on the bearing housing (see picture in post #198) above is probably correct.

emphatically YES I can turn the shaft and the gear I feel with my finger from under the engine also rotate they are still somehow connected if they spin in unison
maybe I should cut a window in the side to release whatever is stuck could always weld it back after?

I know this can be frustrating. Do you have one of those mirrors on a little stick like dentists use ? If not you can get them at any auto parts store. You could them look up in there and perhaps see what is keeping it from moving. You can do this. One of the best ways to solve problems is to remain calm. When that engine was assembled the damper was installed from the back. It will come out the same way, it just requires some patience and ingenuity.

fred the most unlikely thing happened 10 mn ago my neighbour two doors down and across the back alley is a mechanical teacher at the local institute I have my garage door opened for light and he walked in long story in short He offered his experience and help he came back from his garage with a HHUUge plastic hammer and asked me to keep wiggling the cover as I did He toook a swing and pounded I mean pounded the shaft I thought the bike is going to fall off the table but then here is the result I am pointing the finger at the broken bearing that is very loose but all the broken cage parts found in the sump came from the other bearing near the cover so both I sure feel a lot better now so gentlemen remember when all fails a 2lbs teflon hammer is the solution

Patrick...I can tell you are getting frustrated. While I have no particular technical advice to offer I can tell you that over the many years of busted knuckles working on cars and bikes I've found that sometimes the best thing to do is walk away for a little while and completely forget about it...get drunk...get laid...anything that does not involve turning wrenches. Often times after a little down time I will come back to a particularly frustrating project and everything will just fall into place. For me it seems that when I get frustrated my mind starts to try and solve problems from a very narrow perspective and often I can't see what becomes patently obvious to me upon my return after a little cool down period. Relax man, have a beer, or libation of your choice, and take a day off from the project. When you come back to it things may appear a lot different. Good Luck, we are all pulling for you

Fred I wonder if it is something simple like he is getting the helical ear stuck on the bearing case of the transmission out put helical gear. like he needs to tilt the front nose up after he gets the nose bearing clear of the engine case in you picture post 199. I must add I cannot wait until I get home to add that picture to my collection. This would mean the gap at the bottom of the out put over would be closer to the engine then th etop gap so its tilted a wee bit to clear. Pat as Fred state do not get flustered I am sure its because you not holding yoru face straight an dyou will laugh when you figure out what its gettimg hung up on.

Great Patrick nothing like a dead blow hammer to solve problems :)
Now in th epicture where your finger is pointing. Is there a seal on that side? If so yours was installed backwards. Also from the looks of it you heard her fail quickly as I have seen them ground up a buch more then yours. Good ears!!!!

now back to normal life !!!! guys thanks for the help and advices even my wife think you guys rock wow!!
the dealer is going to press both bearings at no charge ..nice gesture. and yes the small bearing was mounted backward. but in the end I wished triumph would use better components for such a big powerful bike, like timken needle bearing would NOT give you this kind of aggravation expensive yes but peace of mind definitively yes!!.
