Transmission Failure

The Full upgrade has a lot more than just the 2nd gear fix.
$700 for just the 2nd gear fix is not bad.
Here's hoping you get the full upgrade for free.

$700 to repair second gear is too cheap to be a comfortable "bid". Either they do not know what is involved or they are extremely good at what they do. At ~100 per hour, to remove the motor, open it, replace the gears and reassemble, would be a deal for just labor not to mention parts.

Some people are harder on their bikes than others. I am one. If you ever try to hit second hard and miss it (on a pre-09), welcome to the club. It is a design issue, not whether your bike has been around the world with no problems.

Have exactly the same problem on my 07 classic...2d gear, heavy load, uphill only, around 2800rpm, sips out of gear momentarily and right back in when I come of the throttle for a split second. If I switch to easy accel, no issue, if I get back on it, does it again. (I don't do this often, but just been trying different things to trouble shoot).

Doesn't happen when shifting gears...solidly in gear accelerating, slips out and back in, no neutral indication, just like it rolls over the gear tine and back into the next?

Please let me know if this does get done for this price...I'm holding off on the dealership as a last resort assuming thousands. For now, I'm happy to shortshift second if I'm on any type of uphill incline. Have zero problems straight and level and all other gears!

With all the torque these things have, I'm surprised they hold together as well as they do.

I called the dealer in Reno today to inquire about this repair. They have a lot more expertise in this area of work. Tech had the day off today so tomorrow they will call me back.

I had the same issue with a YZF600, Dog gears rounded, replaced 2nd and 6th gear fixed.
Dog gears become tapered after time, can get the gears back cut to reverse the taper, will never slip out then.

How did you get one of those very limited edition models with the phantom sixth gear, Mitzy? High friends in low places, I'd suspect.
