Perhaps the 205 captian will speak up and report of the grins his darkside nature had lead, with pictures? I chose the Cooper for the low tread wear factor. I wanted a soft dark side.
HeR3tic,
my apologies to you for taking so long to get back to posting. that said; my reasons for going with a 205 was to gain a faster lean over rate for sharp curves. the added bonus to that is a much less counter steer effort. this turned out to be a very pleasant surprise for me. I'm quite happy with the present situation. I really can't tell much difference from a conventional moto tire except for the harder bite in turns and much better straight line traction... you're in for a real treat if, or when you try this... I'm surely looking forward to the mountains on this setup. that will be the ride to find out if my intuition is correct. or not ... I hope I don't realize the fears Paul has for my demise on a dark side ....... none the less; it's going to be a lot of fun .
Snuffy; I'm thinking (rarely do I go to such troubles) that your 225/55 higher profile is your rub. A 50 might be just the ticket.
snuff,
me thinks Her3tic has the right idea here. you might also want to go with h.d. shocks out back. I've ordered 12" h.d. progressive 412s for just this reason. they should do well with my current setup. Progressive Suspension 412 Series Gas Charged Shocks
Good fellow, I have the 412's. Maybe I just need to stiffen them up. I was in a turn when I heard the scraping sound, but I guess it could have been the tire. I'll give it a little more time to see. I might put some sort of tape on the bottom of the center stand and see if it gets ruffed up in the twisties.
snuff,
geese man, you don't waste much time scrubbing in do ya? if you're scraping metal already,I doubt you'll be much intimidated in the mountains... if your center stand is grinding now, you might want to pull it off before we get to the hills. won't be much left of the **** thing when you get to E.S. . me thinks you're gonna be having a good time in the big hills of the ozarks. what's the tire pressure at? just wondering....
I'm at about 30psi, I may go a little lower. I wish now that I would have gone with the lower profile but it's too much crap to go through to change it out, so maybe in a couple years when I wear this one out
I ran low-mid 30s on my 225 early on but have boosted 'er up to 41-45. There's a lot more positive feel and less mush with the higher pressures. And the rounded shoulder profile seems to work better.
Took the wife out for the first time since the raptor went on and was amazed. Even went over an open grat Iron bridge and it tracked even better than the metz. Still need to traverse some good ole gravel 2 up and report back.
Thanks Guys. I never would have tried this swap with out all your input.
I thought I was better than this: I knew full well TD Fay was going to start moving out earlier than the models portrayed. Yet I succumbed to the voice of the majority, which together have less combined experience than I alone, and drove to work under a developing mass of rain clouds. But alas, I was right. And I paid for it on the drive home.
Perhaps I'm getting less loud in my mid term years.
Actually, the heavier rains had let up by the time I headed out, and I only had a lot of ponded road surface to deal with; and maybe a fair rate of rain pelting me along 80 mph.
The point is: This fatty dun a very very fine job indeed.
This was for a fact the first 30 mile ride in a tropical depression feeder band on a two wheeler I have behind me. I must mention the many many hundreds of hours I have behind me, flying into hurricanes. And like the WC-130 I worked aboard, I had as much confidence in the Fat Bottom Girl having gone over to the darkside.
