Tank Protection Film

Careful on lights - the film stops heat escaping through the glass. A major swine if the reflector is plastic. As for example R3. Just saying. It is hot here anyway so that does not help.

Woah OK haven't checked the rear reflector lens, good point, been on about 8 years now and we have a compulsory lighs on law so they are always running when the bike is, will check tonight, going to switch to LED soon and have spare reflectors (well maybe not if these are buckled).

May main concern was the loss of light output over time but it seems OK and the roads round here are pretty dark at night.

Aarh - Found it, it is still sold here in Oz at one of the big autoparts chains.

Has anyone applied film to their fuel tanks and other panels to prevent stone chips and if so which is the best to use?
Also, any useful tips in applying the film would be handy to know.
One chip can be very annoying....
3M wrap film is cheap on amazon and really easy to use. If you use the matte black its indistinguishable from the paint ( if your paint is matte obviously). Really easy to install, watch a couple of YouTube videos, plug in a hairdryer and stretch it on. Simple and effective and sticks licke crazy, but can be removed if it gets damaged or you feel like a different color

Just spent an hour researching this vinyl wrap stuff.
Very interesting topic & has me ruminating on a Kawasaki green Rocket!
3M Neon Wrap Film | Satin Neon Green | VCW17120
BTW - Surprisingly, this Metro Restyling place is less expensive than Amazon!
For example a 5' X 2' is $24.00 versus $38 at Amazon

The rear wont be much of an issue heat wise. Most LED lights seem now to come with Polycarbonate lenses so don't really need the protection.

The problem is not buckling - the plastic reflector material tuns into a sort of compressed powder - I bought a spare set (very early on) to do some HID r&d work. One of them had some signs of silvering degradation already - One day after a spell of 12hours on the reflector simply disintegrated. Turned to dust. Truly amazing. Sadly no photo.
