what do you want to use the outlet for?

I went with the OEM BMW style plug because there is a huge variety of BMW accessory stuff out there, and a lot of them don't have the cigarette lighter-type jack as an option. If you don't have a BMW jack you have to set up some kind of battery connection. I already had some Gerbing heated clothing with the BMW plug-much easier. BTW, the plug occupies the same spot as the Rivco side ignition switch if that is on your wish list.

I just did a search for auxiliary power socket and found this very old thread. My 09 Touring came with one. It's $23 Triumph part noted in the first post on this thread. I noticed that a BMW R1200C I recently test rode had the same plug.

The guy who had the Beemer said he had an adapter plug for his so he could hook up his battery tender and that they are readily available for about $8. So in searching for them, what do I refer to this type of plug? Is it a European style plug? I found something called a Hela adapter on Amazon but I'm not sure if that's it. I'd never seen a power socket like this until I bought my Touring. The Beemer was the second.

It is called a DIN plug. You can order them from Powerlet.com. Some of the heated gear uses them so look at a powersport dealer.

On my 2005 rocket I made a hole on the top of the radiator shroud and installed a regular cig lighter .

The standard US aux outlets would be the way to go if I was installing one but this Euro plug came with the bike.

Ygransom, I've found that the term DIN covers a lot of ground, with single to milti pin DINs. I recall those from TV and stereo connectors.

I'll figure it out.

I believe it's a pretty generic plug. It's a two blade plug...

The Triumph part is the Powerlet/Euro-style plug vs. the 12v standard cigarette port, FWIW.

On a bike - imo - the Powerlet thingie plug has a plus - it is held in place in that socket with a spring. The ciggie-lighter socket plugs vibrate out.

Agreed. And there are adapters in case you must use the old style.

You searched for Din plugs - Best Rest Products

4 for 10 bucks and the also sell the male plug so you can wire it up to your trickle charger!! Best spot to charge your battery.

I knew it wasn't the US Dan and it was the first time I'd ever seen one, or noticed. It must be hard wired in. I just haven't fooled with much with it yet. I won't be able to use my battery tender because it has an odd ball connector. It's an Optima or some such. Can't recall the name and it's out in the shop. It's the one the Triumph dealerships recommend. It came with the bike.

I'll get a couple of adapters, one with a USB and another for the air pump I carry on travel, same as the on the chargers.
