Powdercoated Black Bearclaw

Like you stole it from Darth Vader!

I'm with Tomcat on the addiction. The only thing I have left to powder coat (which is happening this winter) is my handlebars, risers, and the top of the triple tree. I personally despise chrome and think anything blacked out is far superior, but I do agree that powdercoating the bear claw is one of the biggest cosmetic improvements that can be made to the beast.

i like a balance of the two . i think u can have too much of either
i plan on blacking out some things and leaving others chrome
as for the claw i think it needs to be cut no matter what the colour i find it hard to look at when i see a full claw after cutting mine

sorry evil mitch but it clearly appears you are suffering from the early stages of full blown addiction. I started out with a couple of pieces (Bearclaw and exhaust). Then I soon realized the only temporary relief I could find was 5th gear at about 85 because that seems to limit the opportunities to look down at the bike and when you look down the symptons reappear. To think a bit further, I am yet to hear of an addict who got "just enough".:):D:eek:

Do u know of any powder coaters on brissy sth side TC I want to get the mesh inserts on my radiator shrouds done in black like the roadster ?
Not on the Southside mate, i've used Yates Powdercoating at Banyo for 25 years. Great job ,they let me do my own masking. Usally got'em back within 2 or 3 days , sometimes they are done the next day. They take great care not to loose even the smallest of parts.

Ohh sh!t sorry mate, just re-read your question. The radiator shrouds are chrome plated plastic . They will have to be painted.

How does powdercoating hold up to normal wear and tear - scratches, rock dings, etc. compared to paint? I know that PC is supposed to be much more durable than paint...but just how much?
I have been considering getting my bearclaw PC'd black, but am concerned about scratches and the like that would totally ruin the look of the bike should they occur.

Also, what can I expect powdercoating services to cost in the states (on average) for various parts?

I did my mesh inserts with a dulux pray can of matte black about 9 mths ago - cost virtually nothing - and no chips yet. Did the smaller back inserts too. Will be simple to touch up if I need to but so far so good.
