paint can rattle on newer bikes

Any update from the dealer Ridefree? Somehwat concerned, my new rocket has only a few hundred miles on it, and it has so many odd sounds I am not even sure what "right" sounds like.

I hear from my engine, the cricket noise, typical Triumph triple noise. I hear what in any other motor I would call a mis-adjusted valve tick. I hear a mystery tick/rattle when it's cold from the intake side of the engine, 1/2 way up, and 1/2 way front to back. It has the clutch rattle of a lose throw out bearing noise. I would also say, in any other vehicle, the induction noise has a clear rod knock sound that goes along with it.

Rides and drives great and knowing it's a brand new bike, I chock it up to Triumphs generally sounding like a coffee can full o bolts most of the time :p

Well it looks like I'll be picking my bike up on Saturday, hopefully the noise is gone with the rebuild and all the new parts. Bike has been gone 7 weeks. I'll be taking it for a nice long ride to break it in after I pick it up. I'll let everyone know how sounds and runs Saturday night. Thanks for the interest everyone

I caught my cam chain tensioner at 35,000 miles on the RK just in time before it shyt the bed. I'm about 61,000 into the second one and for sure will probably go with the hydrolic tensioner third time around. Just curious do they even make a hydrolic tensioner for the Rocket..???
No such thing as a hydraulic tensioner for the Rocket, just auto, manual, and a few are running a modified auto so it has not chance to kick back and loose timing in the motor.

@Ridefree I just came home from a 5,500 mile trip on my '14 R3T and not once did I feel any issue. I have close to 18,000 miles on it now. I truly hope yours is complete now.

@Claviger In the last two months, I have had a few other R3 riders take a listen at my bike and have noted that mines does not have the same engine noise as does theirs. @mexican (Lupe) in Tulsa was the last person to ask about my bike. He leaned over the engine much as others have and noted that mine was quite. My best guess is Triumph has a slightly off-day once in awhile when they are adding the center of balance, or growing the engine in the incubator.

If you run a loud enough pipes you don't here bad things.;) Having perched a used bike with 27000 miles on it I am concerned about potential troubles, but I will trust in the Machine ( and keep my fingers crossed:D) until riding season is up. Then I will do my tear downs and inspections.

Well I'm just getting the bike cleaned up after being at the dealer and I have found three scars that weren't there when I dropped it off. First, on the left side of the engine on the rear cover next to the output shaft boot there is a little tab that got broke off leaving a shiny spot and looks like they tried to cover it with black felt tip marker. I can probably file it down square and hit it with some black wrinkle engine paint and match it pretty good. Second. The grill on top of the air box inlet over the filter has a couple pieces broke out of it. Third, there is a nasty gouge (the size of my thumb nail) in the paint of the rear fender under the seat made by the metal bracket under the seat(lines up perfect) from sliding the seat side ways when installing it.I haven't decided weather or not to say anything or just try to fix these things myself because when I picked up the bike the owner told me he was going to lose his arse on the deal because triumph was trying to only pay him for 8 hours labor for the whole job. He has a lot of time involved in full teardown, measure everything, and then rebuild. What do you guys think. Also I appreciate everyone's interest and we'll wishes during this endeavor. I love this bike and have taken great pains to keep it perfect since I bought it and these little scars just bother me. Thoughts anyone?

I would thank the owner, but mention the damage. I would do it in a manner that was clear I wan't looking for repairs on the marks, 2 are super minor. I would let him know though, because, he should know his mechanics are doing damage to customers bikes. Imagine if you had a show bike with a 5k+ paint job and that happened...
