New Cams New Thread

I did find what is supposed to be a good fix from Kibblewhite. They developed a tappet that holds the shim instead of letting the shim float inside the retainer for the GSXR1300, might be adaptable.

Shim-in-Tappet Spring Kit, Titanium, 0.490" Lift, Suzuki®, GSX-1300R™ Hayabusa™, 1999-2019

Taken from the specifications section, and likely pertinent: It is especially recommended for use with reduced base circle cams.

I assume this is you?: You will never see a titanium retainer do this | General Bike Related Topics

Going to give them a call and get the dimensions of the tappets they have to see if this is viable.

I find it really odd only 1 valve did that, at least on my bike.

I'm inclined, however, to wait on my new valvetrain parts and see if the gentler cam shoulder ramp rate and correct springs preclude this issue all together.

Thus far, valves seem fine. Here's some dimensions;

Did some weighing of things:
Ti 40mm intake valves - 35.1 grams
Steel 32.6mm exhaust valves - 43.1 grams
Carpenter Ti Retainers - 6 grams

A good example of how much lighter Ti is, they're both larger, have a more gradual tulip so there's more volume, and yet weight about 20% less!

Updating first 3 posts as I go. Spring Pressure measured today, it's quite high.

If you want to keep the valvetrain you're currently using.

One thing I noticed in disassembly is how easy it is to shift the spring around laterally since there is no seat on the bottom, at least in my head, only the 1mm spring washer. I wonder if you had a 1mm stepped washer made that had an inner raised lip at 17.5mm diameter to hold the spring truly vertical instead of bending and wobbling if it would prevent the lateral motion that could cause the shim to behave this way.

Like below, would need an OD of 27mm, ID of 12.5mm with 1mm thickness for the bottom area and the raised area would need OD of 17.4 or 17.5mm and ID of 12.5mm. Wouldn't change installed height.
