I'm done with tyres!

Battersea, I understand, I do not want to turn this into a debate either... did not think about that when I posted..... Anyway I did just now call my insurance agent ( I am with progressive) and asked about the car tire on the bike... They have no issue with it, they said their only issue would be if I were racing... Which I would never ever do...

I reckon if you got a machine with as much off the line grunt as a Rocket , and you use that grunt ... you're going to chew through tyres. Said it before it's like buying a V8 performance car, driving it hard and then complaining about fuel consumption. Price you pay for that smile on your dial i reckon.

LOL!! I reckon yer right!:D

I don't want to turn this into a darkside v lightside discussion, but here in England there are issues about using car tyres on bikes - I have been seriously 'warned off' by a very experienced insurance guy.
That sounds like a can of worms waitin to get opened, no insurance company I asked would quote therefore no cover. You can't do anything to your bike in the UK without them trying screw you for more cash.even a custom paint job can affect your premium.

Had the Metz & now on Avons which are better in the dry but more skittish than the Metz in the wet. Get the tyre that suits you & you feel comfortable with, after that its just a money thing, sod the milage, feeling good on the ride is worth the extra. I don't believe these days that there is a lot of difference between them, but there is an awful lot of difference in peoples perspective & opinion, I have had a couple of slides on the Avon but who's to say that it wouldn't have happened with the Metz. it's all to do with the rider & conditions, rarely will a modern tyre let you down if you ride accordingly, learning the limitations of yourself is more important than limitations of the machine, if you lose it, it's likely your fault. Sorry if that offends anyone but it's the truth.

Totally agree Jack. I'm much more cautious in the wet and anyone who doesn't account for conditions as well as the weight and power of these bikes is asking for trouble.

But I do feel more confident with the Bridgestone on the back. Have to work on take off to make it spin in the wet - not that I do - whereas the Metz and especially the Avon seemed to do it all the time.

I'm tired of buy brand new tires and getting a nail in them before I get 200 miles on them. Happened to the last three..... and today!

With you on that one.

When I first got the Rocket and came on to this site and read about the cost of tyres I got caught up in the quest to find cheaper rubber i.e. car tyres. After realising it wasn't a good idea, insurance wise (UK only maybe), I actually worked out the cost of using a Cobra. Assuming 6000miles it works out at 3p a mile, the Metz was slightly more at 3.2p - what was I worried about?

The fuel works out at .15p assuming 40mpg - 5 times as much as the tyre, so the most efficient way of saving money is to not use the bloody thing.

Avon was a big improvement on the Metz but a bit skittish (rear) in the wet. Can't say enough good things about the Bridgestone I now have on the back. Better grip, ride and will probably give me almost double mileage (from the look of it) over Metz and 25% more than Avon. Mates really well with the Cobra on the front.

how do you find turn in? as it has a squarer cross section, do you find turn in is different...also how do you find turn to turn transition meaning left right s end or visa versa.....
