I'm done with tyres!

When I was using the Metz before they brought out the cobra I was goin through 2 fronts to one rear (I mostly use the front brakes) .The front was gettin about 5k miles and the rear was giving me bout 7-8k mls. Usin Cobras the ratio is bout even, the rear wearin out first, I get about 8K from the rear and 9k from the front.I think the tread pattern on the front metz is to blame for it wearin early. I run the Avons at the standard pressure.:)

It just goes to show how much rider input can change the outcome of tires -two riders with different riding styles . when i use metzlers i get the opposite outcome i go through two rear tires to one front but i mainly use the torque of the engine and rear brake and then the front and rear to stop.
getting around 8,000killometers out of a rear tire.

I like to wear the front out with the brakes and wear the rear out with POWER :D

I guess I had the same experience except for more miles, except my front Metz would start cupping, so I replaced both tires at the same time. The Avons wore more or less evenly. This time I actually had more miles left on the Avons, but I ran over something and ripped a 3/4 inch gash in my rear tire.. So now I figured I would be brave and try the Bridgestones..

Me too .

Good discussion and reflective of my experience with Metz vs Avon tyres. When I wore the rubber off the 1st set of Metz on the Trumphy America replaced with Avons. Handling was improved so reckon will go with the Avon Cobras when I get to that stage.

Avon was a big improvement on the Metz but a bit skittish (rear) in the wet. Can't say enough good things about the Bridgestone I now have on the back. Better grip, ride and will probably give me almost double mileage (from the look of it) over Metz and 25% more than Avon. Mates really well with the Cobra on the front.

When the Rocket first came out, Bridgestone was listed along with the Metz as an OEM tire. Something happened along the way or in development leaving only Metz. I believe Metz is owned by Pirelli.

Thanks CR3 sounds like the best combo. Cheers:)

**** they are not making this easy. I have been trying to talk myself into the darkside and it has not been an easy talk. I was looking at the Goodrich g-force, but the other side of the argument was pushing me to the Bridgestone max.... now its not recommended by the manufacturer.... so which is the lesser of the 2 evils?
Just 5000 miles and the Metzler needs to be replaced... that would be 2 tires a year... that is just crazy to me....

I don't want to turn this into a darkside v lightside discussion, but here in England there are issues about using car tyres on bikes - I have been seriously 'warned off' by a very experienced insurance guy.
