Help - Another Roadster ECU Issue

Thanks. I never understood the 12 minute tune anyways. I read that it will pick up where it left off whenever conditions are met anyways. I do enough commuting on he freeway, I would likely meet 12 minutes of idle with no throttle in one day just sitting on the freeway.

I personally believe the 12 minute tune if for people who cannot reset the adaptations Via tuning software like tune boy or tune ecu.

THE average motorcycle owner does not want a bike that HE has to tune Its no fun for the non mechanic types which is the largest percentage of owners They want a no hassle totally reliable ride

I am not sure what your point is as it really has nothing to do with this thread!!!

I agree. My T-Bird needs no self-tuning. It could use 600 more cc. However, except for the newer Roadsters, Triumph has limited the power in the tunes by closing the secondaries. If you want it back you have to mess with the tune.

Really unless you want more power then stock you do not have to mess with them. But guys like me do want more so we have to come up with things. I was just pointing out like it was pointed to me that O2 sensors degrade over time and as it degrades it gives false readings which changes things eventually for the worse. This is why having them done on a dyno is good as long as the dyno operator's Sensors are not degraded. then once installed the tune stay pretty much the same not something that keeps adapting over time and eventually might not adapt as well as when new. Npt to mention is the O2 sensor accuate to start. I know the Innovate is off a wee bit when new so as it degrades it will be off even further. I have used the innovate and the Weggo brands and they are nice but I did end up buying new sensors to make sure they were still as accurate as when they were new. Just something to keep in mind.

Maybe in the US - I don't think I know anybody here or the UK who would not "improve" or "modify".

Next problem:

I bypassed the o2 sensor when I added the jardines. The pipes came with the o2 sensor bung plug in it, so I just left it in. Now that I have the dobeck system, I need to get that stupid bung plug out. I used a torx t50. It seemed like the closest size. It felt like it had just a little play. I suspect there must be a metric torx, but I don't have them and didn't see them at o'reilys. So I did what all guys that have a tool that 'pretty much fits'. I tried... And stripped it. Now I need to figure out a way to remove a very stubborn AND stripped flush plug out of my pipe. I'm heading to harbor freight to get some extractors and I've hit it with some more penetrating oil.

I left the pipe on the bike as I'm sure I will have more leverage keeping it mounted to an 800 lb bike than I would on the work bench. Knowing my luck, I'd bend or dent the pipe in the process and then it wouldn't mount back up.

If anyone has an idea on how to get that plug out, let me know. I'll check back between curses.

I got it out. Used a 1/2" pipe nipple extractor. I twisted a 3/8" drive extension, ruined two box wrenches, and had a spark show when it finally gave way. Let that be a lesson to all that plan on using the dobeck in jardines. They must weld the bung on with the plug in place.
