TRIUMPH ROCKET III (Standard/Classic) – GI PRO w/ATRE INSTALL
1)The Gi Pro w/ATRE package should contain the following:
i) Instructions for install + user’s guide
ii) Gi Pro
iii) Additional cable with black and red wires for connection to ground and
power source
iv) 2-sided Velcro strips
v) Zap straps x 4
vi) Red wire tap connectors x 2 (which you won’t use if connecting Gi Pro to
battery)
2) If you are planning to connect the Gi Pro to your battery terminal, I suggest that you get 2 ring connectors and have a crimping tool handy. A flashlight will also be of assistance.
3) If you are uncomfortable at the thought of pulling pins out of the GPS coupler or have never done something like that before (like me) – you can practice by pulling the pins out of the smaller and larger plug on the Gi Pro. It’s a lot easier and less frustrating to get the hang of it on the Gi Pro rather than in the cramped quarters you’ll be working with on the bike. A special pin removal tool can be purchased for this purpose or you can use a small flat head screwdriver (like a jeweler’s screwdriver or the type you use to tighten the screws on glasses) or any similar instrument (e.g. tweezers or even a needle). I used a pointed and narrow letter opener which actually worked great. You will notice that the metal pins on both plugs have a small plastic tong above them which hold them in place. Slide the tool of your choice between the small plastic tong and metal pin and lift the tong up. At the same time – pull on the back of the wire connected to the metal pin and the pin should slide out the back of the plug after a couple of tries. Try this on the smaller and larger Gi Pro plug to get the hang of it. Then push the pin back into the plug in the same way it came out and you should hear a click as the plastic tong snaps back into place. Now you’re ready to do it on the bike!
4) Start by placing your bike in NEUTRAL. Knowing your bike is in neutral to begin with will make it easier later on down the line when you have to check whether you have separated the Gear Position Sensor (GPS) coupler rather than some other plug by mistake.
5) Ensure that the ignition key is in the off position.
6) Remove the small plastic cover located on the left hand side of the engine by unscrewing the 2 torx screws.
7) After removal of the small plastic cover, you’ll see a metal bar that is held in place by the same 2 torx screws. This metal bar will be loose once the 2 torx screws have been unscrewed. Pull the metal bar out as far as the plugs attached to it will allow.
