Flyscreen vs Windshield

Forgive me if this has been addressed (I looked but perhaps not hard enough).

I'm getting to that age when the buffeting of air is getting to be a little too much at speeds over 115kph.

I am desperately opposed to a fairing of any kind.

I would like to know if a Flyscreen works to reduce the upper body airflow encountered over 115kph (70mph), or does it simply direct it up to your head & shoulders.

I know I can achieve this with a windshield BUT I would prefer to not install it if a Flyscreen will do.

Please I am looking for an answer from my fellow captains, I don't need any BS about getting old or how fast is fast, or any other troll behaviour.

My edit as this seems to be a factor in the decision: I am just shy of 6' tall. I wear a half-helmet when legally required too. My drive to work is mainly highway at about 130kph (80mph) for 95km (60miles). We do a two-week trip each summer (4000km - 6000km trips to south eastern US, east coast of Canada and USA, etc).

I have been looking into the Flyscreen also. I have the full removable windscreen on mine, and it works great at all speeds (20mph-105mph). Butt i dont like the look of it. I really only use it on cold days, and when i do a lot of highway driving. If the flyscreen dont work i would recomend doing the removable full screen.

You may be on the wrong forum

Fly screen won't do much for what your looking for
I have a full windshield that I just detach with the 4 main bolts that hold it on - takes 2 minutes
I only reinstall if I'm going on a long trip - for the other 80% of the time, a full face bucket does it for me...... 54 years young tho

I have a R3 Touring with a full windshield and a Storm with a fly screen. Windshield on the Rocket makes 100 miles per day up and down Interstate 95 painless and is removeable if I'm going local. The fly screen redirects up to my face. Can ride the Rocket with a half helmet and sunglasses at any speed. Need a full face bucket or goggles over 45 mph on the Storm.

I have the flyscreen on my roadster. It definitely reduces wind on your body and chest, but the air flow starts to thicken just below the helmet. I dont get a lot of buffeting but it does have some effect.

I have both... a fly screen and windshield. The fly screen is for summer riding and the windshield is for winter. I live in SC so I basically ride year around. If I'm going on a trip somewhere and going to mostly on the interstate then I switch out to the windshield. That knocks down the buffeting when riding behind or beside tractor trailers. Don't get me wrong I don't stay beside tractor trailers long but the wind coming of those suckers is horrendous.

The fly screen does divert some air but it's really not enough to even talk about.

I think it depends on a few things. How tall you are, what level of buffeting seems bad to you and what distance you like to ride.

I have had all 3 OEM offerings. Each one provides more protection than the next shorter one. Not happy with any of them. For me it’s a Clearview +5”. I’m 6’2”. With that screen the top of the shield is right at chin level. No buffeting. I like 300 - 500 mile rides.

I have the fly...noticeable difference when I firsr put it on and I cruise 110-130 for most of my commuting km's.

It may be that I'm just used to the buffeting but I really don't notice much pressure on my neck/head with the screen fitted. I'm a bees *****over 6 foot tall.

I use both at once.

I seldom travel below 120 - generally closer to 140.

I have the fly screen on my Roadster and travel about 60 miles per day on the interstate. I wear a 3/4 helmet and shield and all is well at highway speeds and beyond..... I am 5'8" and I think height matters as to it's effectiveness......
