10k mile service - DIY (also, Spark Plugs Not Tight & Wire Boots Not Pushed On!)
Sharing my experience here changing the air and fuel filter and inspecting the spark plugs. Refer to the manual for the basics, but here are things that may help, along with some very surprising discoveries I made... 1) Removing the tank There are three things to disconnect besides the bolt...
Lube the Splines
Lube the splines...
At a little over 8k miles I thought it time to lube the splines on the 3R. I'm one of the few who went through a final drive and drive shaft on the older models and have tried since then to do this with every rear tire change or, at least, every other, so every 4 -8,000 miles. Although there was...
Yeah, fully flushing the clutch fluid gets into the 20K service, but if you suck out the MC and replace that, it'll be pretty clean after successive changes over time. What Your Clutch Fluid looks like at 20K - Also, Issues Restoring Pressure and Fixes
Here's what your clutch fluid looks like at 20,000 miles.... There was sludge at the bottom. Replacing the fluid is part of the 20,000 mile service. Other information on that can be found here...
I have stayed with stock air filters. I was convinced long ago that more air in also means more dirt in, which intuitively makes sense to me. This may be a hot topic. If I change exhaust at some point I may decide to go to hi-flo filters then.
3K in a year? You gotta work on that ;-). Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.
