Could it just be my shifter?

Bad choice, LIthium grease will chew up the whole linkage system within weeks, just joking lol

You did pull the clutch cable OUT (Counterclock) right? Now make sure the lock nut is tight, not just finger thight. It's one of these rattles you'll spend weeks to find and will totally drive you nuts! Trust me!

There's this measurement adjustment for the clutch. Forgettaboutit, use common sense. Steering straight Pull the clutch lever just a tad and you should start feeling more tension afterwards. Now you should be able to feel this "gap" but at the same time it should be as small as possible.
If you don't feel this slack your cable is too tight therefore clutch might slip.

Actually I feel very little slack. It feel good right now. I'm out and about on the bike right now. Just stopped for a coffee. I'll feel for it more as soon as I get back in the saddle.

So far it feels great it amazes me what a little turn does to how it behaves. I'm cautious though. Because it's almost to good to be true.

How many miles on your bike kroth? My tranny got better at about 10k. And remember, the tranny in the rock is quite agricultural and needs a good positive shift.

kroth, i've had to do that 3 times in 20000mi so far. Sounds too good to be true I know but it sure fixed the problem in my case.

It took me a while to make the connection between the two as I was trying different handlebars/risers setup at the time.

Dubfish,
I have just under 15K right now. So it seems to be in line with what I'm reading.

RooK... it is an incredible difference. Shifting is easier on my foot, and it's much more responsive. I'm certain that the clutch must have been slipping.

I just got back from about a 40 mile ride. I alternated between lots of short shifting and winding out first and second. In both cases it was solid!

Took it to 100 MPH on the freeway and held that for about 5 minutes. Again... solid.

Dam I LOVE this bike!

:)

I love a happy ending. (By the way, did any of the rest of you old codgers note that he his message said, "I just stopped for a coffee, I'll check when I get home". He is wired in while he is on the road. **** Geeks! Probably doesn't have a flashing 12:00 on his VCR either!)

..what?..no need for an upgrade kit now?.. ..j/k..glad ya got her fixed with relatively easy 'stuff'..

..as for this..

Before I did any of this I was sensing a sort of "floaty" feel to the bike.

..what ya been smoking before ya mount up?..
